Are you in the London area? Most hospitals there do tours, but you have to make an appointment or sign up. Call the maternity ward for info. I gave birth in the UK last year, and the hospital did antenatal classes as well as maternity tours. Take your hubby along too - on D Day he will need to know where the closest parking lot is, where to take you for admission etc.
To your other question on where to go: Once you start getting contractions, start timing them and call the labour ward when they are regular (approx 10 mins apart). They will guide you on when you need to come in. All this is covered in the antenatal classes. Your midwife can also discuss this with you.
