how often do you fear death? is it normal if one experiences the fear of death constantly to an extent that he can’t function his day to day activities normally. like losing the sleep over this fear, constant thoughts that he will day the next moment and then thoughts like bad will happen to him in grave,in hereafter etc.
in my opinion, i see this type of fear where a person is thinking more in terms of bad will happen to him, is kind of negative and indicates that the person is losing trust and believe in the mercy of ALLAH who is all forgiving.
is it okay to be fearful that you will be punished after death because ALLAH has also promised rewards for the good souls and told that death is a step towards attaining the eternal life in Jannah(INSHALLAH)so when a person is focusing more on the punishment side and is fearing death constantly only thinking the negative, then is it a sign of weak Imaan? is it that these whispers are coming from the shaiytaan to him? if someone is experiencing this, then what is the best possible way to get rid of these thoughts?
Re: Fear of death
No, it’s not a sign of weak Imaan. Just think of it as your soul trying to tell you to fix up and become a better muslim to attain Jannah. I’d be more worried if you didn’t have any sort of fear of dying and the hereafter. As long as fearing your death keeps you on the right path and makes you a better muslim, then don’t worry. Just don’t constantly over-think about it and try not to let it affect your daily activities and functioning.
Re: Fear of death
please seek professional help with a psychiatrist…there could be so much more at play.
it is not normal for a person to have such a fear of death that they are unable to function on a day to day basis.
Re: Fear of death
Fear is natural and in fact is one aspect of our imaan. But debilitating fear is not natural. Seek professional help.
Re: Fear of death
Have you experienced a close one passing away recently? If so then you still may be deeply affected and in a state of shock. Get some help, this isn’t right.
Re: Fear of death
An aalim gave a talk about this a couple weeks ago for Juma. Both too much fear AND too much hope are both harmful. Shaytan leverages both to misguide people. He uses fear to make them think that they’re so bad, there’s no chance for them so they don’t bother trying to do what is right or abstain from wrongdoing. On the other hand, he also uses too much hope to make people confident that whatever they will do, Allah is all forgiving, so the people with this attitude also don’t take measures to abstain from wrongdoings and doing good amal.
In the same talk, he mentioned that the right thing to do is to make an effort to earn the mercy of Allah. We shouldn’t try to justify something if we are doing something wrong. There is a hadith with the approximate meaning “The wise person is the one who remembers death prepares for it and the weak minded one is he who keeps following his desires and keeps high hopes in the mercy of Allah.”
Re: Fear of death
Its bad situation, but can be fixed. Make the person busy in life.
eg work therapy.
I am not sure if a counter idea or philosophy can fix, the way he thinks.
Re: Fear of death
Thank you for the replies. I would appreciate if more people can reply so to have a better insight about this.
This is not for myself but a close friend going through this.
And yes the person’s 3 relatives has passed away with sudden deaths in a very short span of time.

Re: Fear of death
Try asking them to do dhikr whenever the thought of dying comes to them…this can provide some relief.
Re: Fear of death
may Allah remove his or her anxiety..may Allah grant peace of mind & heart to that person and may this test bring close him or her to Allah subhan wa ta’alla Ameen
Allah says in surah baqarah
**And We will surely test you with something of fear **and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, (155)
then Allah is telling what to do..this is the beauty he tests and gives solution ![]()
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” (156) Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided. (157)
ask him to keep on praying this dua inna lil lahi wa inna alehe rajeon
may Allah grant peace all of us Ameen
Re: Fear of death
Can this be ,that these constant thoughts of death and the fear is kind of Shaitaan trick to make the person become pessimist and negative about the blessings of ALLAH? like these constant thoughts that i will die tomorrow, then having thoughts that i will die on so and so day, or having thoughts that i will die on so and so month. so while i understand that remembering death and preparing yourself for it is good, but does ALLAH wants us to think in the manner this person is thinking, and if not then these are thoughts caused by shaitaan?
Re: Fear of death
Death isn’t a scary thing in my personal opinion .. that is why we were supposed to be ready for it every minute/second of the day… so you can disconnect from this world at the drop of hat.. but then realistically … everyone is attached to some degree… some have kids.. some have parents…some have trips to go to.. so have meetings to attend… anyway .. i am just dragging on i think…bottom line .. What I meant to say is people do get scared of things when they don’t understand… maybe once when they actually realize what happens after they die( By reading Quran, hadiths, books that explain it according to their faith) and why are they are not supposed to be too attached to the materialistic aspect of their life they will be contented and satisfied.
Re: Fear of death
i do have little same situation at times. It gets worse as thoughts just come over and over with more and more strange things, start crying as if i am some hopeless helpless kid and at the end its like i am trying to run from everything, mind goes really wild and its hard to control. The only thing that helps me at these time is when i am having these episodes i go for pray and then share it all with Allah. its hard to judge if its good or bad thing (something coming from Allah or devil) so i just say it all to Allah and at times i even fall asleep prying and then when i wake up i feel really great with a very light heart, and i am really happy. When i have these episodes they are worse to the point few people claimed they heard me crying with little screams but praying that time really helps, tell your friend to do it and InshaAllah will find this really useful
Re: Fear of death
I am not really afraid of dying. I am more afraid of what would become of the people I care (family) when I die … would they be able to carry on without me?
Re: Fear of death
Thanks. May ALLAH give you relief as well.
