A moderator has been spreading a hoax in the general section. The urban legend is the now infamous “dont give strangers rides - they are all bombers” chain mail. He insists it’s a rampant phenomenon but has yet to give even one source of this “news”.
I know Gupshup does not allow any news to be posted without a source. If this moderator insists this is “news” why is there no source listed? What is Gupshups policy on urban legends? Fear mongering?
Aaaaah interesting. And the lucky moderator is none other than myself. As for you, get your facts straight before making me look bad with things I did not say.
#1 - I did not say that don’t give rides to stranger because they are all bombers. I said,** think twice** before you give ride. I did not mention anything about everyone being a bomber. You attributed that to me in the above post.
#2 - I did not say this was forwarded to me via mail. I had conversation via phone which I posted in very first post.
#3 - I certainly did not say that this was in News. Others said it was, I merely said that this happened to someone I know. Had it been in News, I would have gave the actual reference. I don’t see how something which happened to someone you know = something which was found in piece of News paper and the source is not being provided.
#4 - I certainly did not label this as utter truth, neither did I say it’s a hoax. You certainly have your opinion to disagree but I don’t see how twisting my words or failing to understand what I was saying helps.
I said it in that thread too (which you probably missed) and will say it again, thanda pani piyeN and read carefully whether the person is actually quoting a story from news or sharing something which happened to someone the person knows personally. It would also help if you can read and catch the difference between something passed on as 100% truth or something (which may/may not be true, hence the use of word “possible”). I think I have better things to do than read my e-mail and post it here every now and then. This was not from e-mail. You and/or others not believing me is certainly not the end of the world for me (sorry to burst your bubble there). This can be as much of a “prank” (played by some nut) as it can be a hoax. Not hard to understand now is it.
And I could care less too. I don’t like the fact that you twist my words and say things which I did not even say or mention anything about (such as don’t give ride to strangers because HHL said they are all bombers) to prove your point.
My advice: Don’t take it to heart when others don’t agree with you (like I did not) and feel free to contact the person via PM to ask him/her what he/she actually means if things are not clear in thread and whether it is something directly from the newspaper OR via someone else. If you don’t catch the drift, then use the PM facility instead of running to Feedback. Have a nice day
