Fazl e Akbar: The Order of the Boot

I saw this guy bowling in England a few years ago and he didn’t look like much back then. He’s just a steady bowler, nothing more. The difference between him and the likes of Gul and Shabbir is that they can produce real jaffa deliveries. If this guy can’t do the business on a green wicket where’s he going to do it?

Along with Saqi who should never have been recalled in the first place I say give Fazl the boot once and for all.

Listen up Pak selectors. I was right before and I’ll be right again.

^ True but he is there only because of injuries to Shabbir and Gul. Once they are back he will be out again.

Perhaps if we had blooded a few more replacements against Bangladesh we would have established by now whether guys like Rao or Rauf could do the business or not? Finding out that Fazl still can't cut it at this level has proven expensive in such an important series.

BTW I have written off Fazl before this game is over. He has the 2nd new ball in his hand right now and a green wicket which should have every self-respecting seam specialist licking his lips…so he can ram my words right back down my throat. Will he do it?

Will he bollocks :snooty:

give the guy a break.

he is in the pak team since 97... has dealt with alota injuries and setbacks. now he is playing his 3rd? test and you expect him to perform while others are not anyway better.

problem with most of the pak bowlers is they aim for speed and scaring the batsman not taking him out. then they look the batsman in the eye if he doesnt /can't play the ball and then if he hits a four they just go back and throw the same crap over again.

its not fazl, its the whole pakistani bowling.... not to mention batting. yoyo will shine? yeah when i shave my hairy ass... which is never.

Are you watching the same game as me? Shoaib and Sami have at least looked dangerous in spells. This guy is bowling military medium lollypops. As for it being his 3rd test, how many tests has Balaji bowled in?

we are not comparing balaji with fazle.

bowling along wont cut it for pak... look at our batsman did on the crease and then on the field! Dropping catches like pigeon droppings and that too calls us to blame the bowlers. sami and shoib are two main bowlers in pak team if they don't swing and throw the right balls instead they worry about their hair during the runup and followup and how they curse the crap out of batsman by looking into their eyes as if....

too bad fazle can't bowl in the 90s otherwise he will also be looking dangerous and bowling like our champs. that would make all of us happy.

What is it that you are trying to say exactly? You rate Fazl as a bowler and would like to see him play matches ahead of Shoaib and Sami?

Can you be specific as I rate bowlers according to how they bowl and not according to how our team bats or fields like pigeons etc. So I looked at Fazl and thought to myself now there's one really $hit bowler. Of course he could prove me wrong but instead he was so bad Imran Farhat ended up replacing him despit the ball still being relatively new.

But you think this guy's a good bowler I take it?

i am not rating fazle... and certainly not suggesting he should bowl ahead of sami or shoib.

shoib isn't on the field... sami is also out! that leaves fazl as the only medium pacer. how long can he keep batsman like dravid and ganguly at bay??? sami and shoib did not have any movement... this guy did.

look what happened in the first test. fazle didn't play there. sami and shoib need to set some tough examples here if this team is going to move ahead with some spirit.

our batsman didn't give our bowlers enough runs to defend.
our fielders fracked up by dropping very important catches (that is very discouraging and very disappointing to the bowlers... you lose your line, length in the process which makes you look bad and openers have to bowl) who knows dravid might go on and make double test century against pak... it isn't always easy after you come out of injuries and sitting on the bench for all this time and suddenly you are expected to perform and take wickets in the FINAL TEST match when the whole team is looking like crap.

Well one way of keeping batsmen at bay is to take the new ball and bowl some good deliveries with it :ahaa:

This guy’s just a pie chucker and it isn’t anybody else’s fault…that’s all there is to it.

whatever... new ball doesn't mean you will get the wickets considering there is a OLD batsman facing you who already faced 2 new balls and 350+ deliveries.

did anyone ask wasim and waqar if they would donate their DNA for cloning? :D

Agreed. Definitely there is no guarantee you will get a set batsman out with a new ball. Especially if you bowl crap which is what Fazl did. I think he's a waste of time and shouldn't be picked again. You think he's good and should be persevered with. Let's just agree to disagree.

i think he can improve.... we needed someone with experience for this match. fazl if he practices and works on his bowling he can also swing the ball. i just feel that its not easy for a bowler like fazle to perform after he has been sitting out there for long time and has had injuries... after sami failed to perform and shoib left, he had better chance of taking wickets but sadly nothing went the pakistan way today and big part of that was batting and bowling.

Hmm

Going thru this thread, I just could not avoid jumping in, reason being just a few days back, on another thread I had mentioned that there was no lack of talent in Pakistan, only lack of management.

Like Mr Xtreme has validly pointed out, if only the Pakistani Think Tank had evaluated and shortlisted promising Individuals and invested in them wisely, they would not have been stranded without options.

Not passing Judgement on or Belittileing Fazl Because it is definately not his fault, I think Its a shame if selectors have to select a player who has been in the Squad since 1997 and only playing his 5th Test. Pitifully which boils down to less than 1 test a year!!!

I think my post may be off topic, but hey what the hell!!

I always wanted to see Rao as a replacement for Razzaq or Shabbir. But PCB prefered experience(2 tests huh?) over current form. Rao has been reportedly very impressive in nets. He gave a hard time to Yoyo and Hamid with his line and length and sharp swings. Well, what can I say, this Fazal guy might be good at domestic level, but the way he bowled wide outside the off stump, looks like he is struggling with the basics. And where is that extra swing that he is famous for?

I was advocating giving new bowlers a chance during the BD series but I remember Inzimam being worried that we would struggle without the senior players. In fact we did nearly lose a test match but it was a short-sighted policy. Fazl looked like a run of the mill bowler last time I saw him. And nothing's changed which points to the fact that maybe he's just crap. Shame we had to have it confirmed in this match.

That's not to say that Rao or Rauf are necessarily any better, I can only tell when I see them play. But Fazl looks out of his league for sure.

Xtreme
It could be that he is just the best available. People are shouting Iftekhar and Rauf because they just havenot seen of them. I am sure if team selection committee prefered him before others then must have had their reasons. But I agree he doesnt look impressive.

Thats what I was wondering too :konfused: I didn’t see him swinging the ball at all.

well said ..i agree with u...i personally wanted rao to play this match but then why not fazle who is takin so many wickets this year.....rao has almost 300 first class wickets and fazle has close to 400.....so i agree that may be that is the best we have right now....after all selection commitie, inzi, miandad every one can not be stupid....

i have heard a lot abt rao but then none of us seein him playin...but i would be really disturbed if that is the best talent we have in stock......we have produced, imran, wasim , waqar and shoaib and aqib javed and it hurts that now we dont have much to rely upon.....

I thought Rauf would have played this match, a lot of hype was around him when he first got noticed and news papers reported he was geniunley quick. In straight drive yesterday Rameez said Fazal-e-Akbar got the nod because of his experience since he has played international cricket before. In that case I guess Waqar would have been better called to play a last match before retiring. He is definatley still better then Fazal-e-Akbar.

At the same time Sami has been a total disappintment so far. He never looked dangerous in any spell. Yes he did produce a few good delivries and also cought Dravid plumb infront when Mr. Faaty decided not to raise his finer but thats a seperate issue. Sami hasnt looked like a real wicket taker. Shoaib bowled some nasty hostile spells and was always in the hunt for a wicket, too bad no one was there to support him.
