So, while I might still be ordering from home-based designers, I am finding more and more that shopping in person isn’t as expensive as I thought it would be.
What are some of your favorite brick and mortar stores in the Tristate (NYC, NJ, CT) area?

i like this shop thats right next to Raheela's beauty parlor in brooklyn...she has nice stuff.
There are a few shops in Jackson heights but im not too thrilled with their designs any more. too expensive with such crappy fabric

I went to JH yesterday and found some stuff. I bought two suits–a red chiffon/bamavar one with heavy gold kaam for $120 and a white/blue one for $95. It was a pretty good deal. I agree that some spots suck but there are so many shops within a short walking radius that good deals can be found. Karisma and Pashmina have beautiful clothes but they’re a little expensive. Some of the shops that are off the beaten path or not as obvious seemed to have much better deals (like Banarsi and Sarawaniya and two other shops on 37th Avenue and 75th Street–I can’t remember their names). Parking is annoying in Jackson Heights but you can always find parking closer to Northern Boulevard–like on 70th street and 35th Avenue and 71st street and 35th Avenue. It’s not too far of a walk and is totally safe but don’t leave anything visible in your car and don’t let people see you putting stuff in your trunk and then walking away! What about Hicksville? Is it worth a trip?

Raheela's is on Coney Island Avenue/btwn Foster and Ave H (closer to Ave H).
I love karishma and lavanya...and another favorite is armaan's bridal...but their stuff is too expensive.
The best thing about JH is that its easily accessible by public transit, most lines stop at Roosevelt/74th (E F G M R and 7)
