Okay, I’m a sucker for all kinds of bizarre things. Pakistani film music is one of those. Some of the stuff which has come out of Lahore in the last 10/15 odd years actually makes for some very decent listening.
I’m currently sampling the tracks of the 1998 hit **Very Good Dunya, Very Bad Loag **which are rather mediocre, barring one track sung by the late Nur Jehan’s daughter which is simply breathtaking. Oh and apparently *Nisar Bazmi, ***the amazing musician from the 60s has scored the soundtrack for the film…
Please feel free to talk about any Pakistani film song you’ve fallen in love with and can’t get out of your head!
My current favorite: Sulag Raha Hai from the above mentioned film
Haris, its been sung by Tauseef Dar. The song (its male version) had a cheesy chorus which ruined it totally, but the accordion/piano interludes are totally spectacular.
main youn milon-nikah (reema, shaan)
o sanam o sanam muskrah io sanam-chor machaye shor (babari ali, reema, sahiba, rambo etc)
kya cheez hai pakistani-chaand babu (omer sharif film)
aa pyar dil mein basa-sangam (shaan, resham)
kyon chup kyon ho roye roye-sangam
janu sun zara-jeeva
chooley agar tujh ko hawa-jeeva
jeeena hai jeena tou hai-guns and roses
mujhko tera khat yeh mila hai-guns n roses
waada raha yeh tere sang waada rah
main youn milon-nikah (reema, shaan)

Thats another one of my favorites. The soundtrack of Syed Noor's 1996 hit Ghungat is pretty nice too. Almost all the tracks make for good listening. Dekha jo chehra tera and* Yeh Mausam yeh tanhai* are the pick of the lot though.
