Re: Favorite or Better Parent - Your Mom or Dad

I dont know if this is true...but girls said dad & most guys said mum.....:)

But in my case it's definately my mum...hats off to a woman who went to england in 60's from pampered princess to working class asian and still managed to give us moral values halal haram etc, while allowing us to wear jeans n tshirts and giving us our space...we appreciate that more now as we bring up our own kids...

mum I love U...<3

Re: Favorite or Better Parent - Your Mom or Dad

My mom hands down. I used to be close to my dad when I was younger. However around college and after that I became really close to my mom and dunno I never can talk to my dad about anything personal......it makes me sad...but yeah so I am closest to my mom.

Re: Favorite or Better Parent - Your Mom or Dad

My dad and I didn't get along very well, probably because of our similar tempers. And he tries so hard and usually drives me crazy, annoying me. I know he loves me a lot, he sacrifices a lot for me, probably more than my brothers, but even now that I am older and more reflective, I still have moments where he makes me want to scream, eventho really he hasn't done anything wrong. I know I owe him a lot, but sometimes i can't control how I feel. Since my daughter was born, I think I've warmed up a hit more, but there are still moments.

I am closer to ammi. I talk more to her, express more to her. She's my favorite. But I think honestly she has always aimed low for me. Like she wants me to live life comfortably, not rock the boat, not put myself out, not work too hard. The working hard thing is because she has worked incredibly hard all her life, and she feels it wasn't worth it -- it's better to be the selfish spoiled housewife in her mind. So she hated me sharing my passion and efforts related to my job, bc she felt in the end I would give a lot to something that didn't really matter. It doesn't help that in picked teaching over medicine, so not only did I work hard, i was doing it for little money. Boy was she releived when I decided to stay home with Bunny for a little while. She keeps trying to get me to switch to freelance writing work, which I don't mind doing (tho it's not as easy as she thinks), but I will eventually go back into teaching iA.

Anyway, my dad was different in that sense, always trying to get me to voice my opinions, pursue different paths (tho he also wants me to be a doctor) and these days his newest thing is to get me to get a law degree while I'm home with baby. Not only do I NOT want to do that, it is definitely not as easy as they make it sound.

I guess they both think me capable of a lot more than I think I can do myself, but give different advice depending on their own opinions.

my parents always used the good cop/bad cop routine lol! when i was younger i was a daddy's girl so if mymum wouldnt let me do somethng id run to my dad...and not close to my mum at all...my dad was my everything. but then as i got to 16 17 my mum and i became best friends...id rather go shopping with her than any friends...im still close to my dad but iv devolped a more of a freindship bond with my mum....so i cant possibly say who is better!
