I have a pair of post earrings that i really love and could wear daily, simple, 14k gold with opals in a lovely setting. But after an hour or two of wearing them, my earlobes begin to itch and get inflamed. I soaked the earrings for 24 hours in alcohol then scrubbed them with a little brush. Didnt help, same thing. Has anyone else ever encountered this? What to do to fix them?
Re: favorite earrings
try pure lemon extract, if not, try smearing some soap on there..
Re: favorite earrings
Try having them gold-plated.
Re: favorite earrings
:k:gold is the only metal who leads to almost no allergies, but be carefull because in the west most of gold is not pure (mixed with other metals to make it harder), and can be mixed with the very nasty nickel metal.
So try to choose as pure gold as you can and have them gold-plated in a thick layer, so that there is little chance they would get altered and irritating again.
Re: favorite earrings
Hmmm mama i have the same problem, artifiical earrings begin to make my lobes itch.. i don worry abt it, i take em off after a while anyway
Re: favorite earrings
I usually put some ointment on my earings before i put them on. Betnovate which is one i get from pakistan works great for me.
Re: favorite earrings
Betnovate may contain steroids. Try to avoid using stuff that has steroids.

I have the same problem with fake jewellery-necklaces, earrings and sometimes bracelets and rings. I found a product that you can use to coat the parts of the jewellery that touch your skin. It looks like and smells like clear nail polish. I got it at The Bay. It's expensive mind you...a teeny tiny bottle cost me $15 + tax.
