Favorite covers

Dave Matthews Band - live cover of Bob Dylan’s All Along the Watchtower (love it, love it, love it, they just take off after two minutes, turning a two and a half minute song into nearly 11 minutes, this would be so amazing to see live).

Tori Amos - Smells like Teen Spirit (that took guts, she’s totally changed the song, it’s just her and the piano, a very depressing song)

APC - Love Song (cover of the Cure and Black Sabbath’s Diary of a Madman. The original Cure is good but this is better, this one’s lyrics SUCK though but the music is so amazing that you forget all about the lyrics)

Jeff Healey Band - Beatles’ While my guitar gently weeps, still doesn’t beat the original but it’s nice

What are yours?

Re: Favorite covers

Tori Amos? Singing Nirvana's song?

Please don't tell me she did the part where he starts screaming.

Re: Favorite covers

She sings it, doesn't scream it. It's worth a listen (though most Nirvana fans will probably think she butchered it, because it's nothing like the original)

Re: Favorite covers

^ofcourse she must have butchered it, there is only one kurt cobain

i like jimi hendrix version of "all along the watchtower"

Re: Favorite covers

"There she goes" - the cover version by sixpence none the richer.

Re: Favorite covers

Sounds like you haven't even heard it 5abi! Yeah there is only one Kurt Cobain, but she doesn't try to imitate him. I think she manages the uncover the true essence of the song. It's not and rebellious anymore, but doesn't mean it's any less better.

This doesn't count as a cover, but I like Paul Weller's Wild Wood (the Portishead remix, at least I think it's a remix).

Re: Favorite covers

Yea I just heard that Tori Amos one, she didnt' butcher it at all. It's much peaceful and she's got a good voice. Nice song.

btw has anyone seen that video for this one Tori Amos song (it's really strange) it's got this woman with a head and then it's just a foot, and then there's a guy and he's just a head with a hand. They hop around the entire video, I swear it's so wierd. Anyways, I forgot how the song goes. What was it called?

Re: Favorite covers

Mannn that’s an old song hahah. It’s pretty good except the part in when she keeps echoing one of the words “ainn ainn ainn”. Yea that’s pretty annoying. BUT, good song. (I’m talking about the original)

Re: Favorite covers

I haven't heard the DMB song - will have to remember to give it a shot.

Duran Duran's cover of 'Perfect Day' by Lou Reeds.

Sheryl Crow's cover of 'First Cut is the Deepest' by Cat Stevens.

No Doubt's cover of 'It's my Life' by Talk Talk.

Re: Favorite covers

I really hated that cover of "First Cut Is the Deepest" What the hell Sheryl was thinking in a damn tank-top?

Wildcover cover is cute, though, album is nowhere near the cailbre of "C'mon C'mon" It might go unnoticed.

Skinny Puppy’s version of “Borderline” by Madonna

Smashing Pumpkins version of “Isolation” by Joy Division

Re: Favorite covers

I just heard this and love it, I find it beautiful, and very painful for some reason, especially toward the middle: Tool's live cover of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb.

Bjork's cover of Gloomy Sunday.

Jeff Buckley's cover of Thin Lizzy's Dancing in the Moonlight.

Radiohead's cover of Neil Young (I think)'s After the Gold Rush. Even though Thom Yorke sounds particularly nasal here but it suits the song.
