My favorites change from time to time. But an all time favorite is Verse 19 from Surah An Naml. In the past whenever I came across this ayah and read the words ‘tabassama dhahikan’ it would make me smile.
I really like the rest of the dua too in the ayah. We can read it as a dua from ‘rabbi auzi’ ni… Till the end’.
There are many many things which resonate deep with the soul.
Surah yousuf for example I never read any thing out side of quran who tell a story so beautifully with so little.
I should not say beautiful but its what you can understand having lived life, how one sentence can capture a life time.
How what brothers said when they were planning against yousuf when perhaps they were them selves young and ambitious and how what they said after having lived life about yousuf's real brother when he was seemingly in trouble. And the ayat you quted from yaqoob as
And what yousuf's father said when his sons were travelling back to him with good news.
These days I have one cd in my car I listen to over and over.
it has surah maryam surah taha
In surah taha.. when moses ask SAMARI "what is your mater (or case)" what SAMARI answer is amazing and so much different how other people are quoted to have spoken. They spoke straight forward and simple. But not SAMARI...
its like you listen to very day joe.. and then you hear one sentence from Aristotle .. their speech will be different as day from night.
Thats how SAMARY sounded different. Blows my mind away.
You know what I really believe quran is what it says it is.
So much so when I was reading it..I started getting sense of that feeling.
Eventually I started trusting it when quran quotes some thing its actual speech of that person.
So following that line of thinking when I started ready surah al jin, I said to my self ok.. they are not people I am going to find some thing unique or strange in this surah.
And lo and behold, when they described of muslims praying together, they described it exactly how in west they show people praying in kabah..
sort of looking at people in prayer from high vintage point.
That way of looking at salat/namz in progress is common now since we have camera on heights.. but back then.. it was some one describing prayer after observing from high vintage point.
Again blew away my mind. how i anticipated some thing different and how I found some thing different.
Is it too much talking :( I feel lazy to go for cycling today.
One of my top top favorites is in Surah Noor (verse 35). It is deeply poetic and eloquently written.
Noor un ala Noor. Cannot reiterate how much I love it!
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.
Another one of my favorites is in Surah Anbiya (verse 87). Dua of Hazrat Yunus:
Another ayah I really like is ayah 53 of surah Az Zumar. I love the way it says " do not despair of the mercy of Allah" . The ayah has the words mercy, forgiving and merciful.
So evangelists say Haroon (as) was brother of musa (as) and they lived thousands year before Mary.
I too beloved may be some one made a mistake.
But when I started reading quran for my self. I thought about it.. See when people draw association to some one famous they go for the most famous one.
For example I will say "I saw LP in a picture with Obama " rather then “I saw LP in a picture with Michele Obama”
So if some one had to casually mention they would have used name of musa(as)
Then I thought ok there is some thing unique about Haroon(as)
.. so when I reached surah taha.. I read
So Haroon(aarom) made a big mistake. (for which quran clarifies his position )
Now having read bible too. I had this inkling.. that bible some leave thing unfulfilled.
I knew that what was in bible that what Mary’s tribe knew of Haroon(as) since that was their only source. So I asked a Christian about Haroon(as) and as I expected they hold him accountable of some big sin and stuff.
So Jews knew of haroon as not so good example so when Mary came with Jesus it reminded them of haroon.
So when people chased after prophets day in day out.. with accusations and question..
Prophets with patience listened and answered. And pray for their people.
On the other hand:
Now here is Ibrahim(as) father responding to Ibrahims(as)'s discussion bout his faith... last line(in red) when I heard it made me feel like I was in pakistan.
Talking to my muslmans..specially those aashiqaan
He said to his father, ?Father, why do you worship something that can neither hear nor see nor benefit you in any way?
19:43
Father, knowledge that has not reached you has come to me, so follow me: I will guide you to an even path.
19:44
Father, do not worship Satan- Satan has rebelled against the Lord of Mercy.
19:45
Father, I fear that a punishment from the Lord of Mercy may afflict you and that you may become Satan?s companion [in Hell].?
19:46
His father answered, ?Abraham, do you reject my gods? I will stone you if you do not stop this. Keep out of my way!?
O sister of Haroon, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste."
Surah Maryam, Ayah 28
If you read the ayah carefully, all the three people mentioned were righteous persons. As they said to Maryam, Ya Haroon’s sister, your father and mother were not bad people. Calling her Haroon’s sister was not because they were defaming her, or pointing her because of Haroon’s sin, but it was to proving that all your family and ancestors were pious and righteous people and you belong to such a good family yet you did this sin (according to them) of having a child without marrying. Whats the point in asking about a sin when there was another sinful person or activity in the past in her family. Doesnt make sense.
All the Prophets were innocent and masoom, yet about all of them did mistake in their lives, just a single mistake. And that was too unitentionally. And they will be afraid of just that unintended sin on the day of judgement. Only our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) did No mistake in his life. Still everyone remembers all of them because of their good deeds and preaching. It doesnt make sense that jews remembered Haroon because of his sin, yet they forgot Musa’s sin who actually killed a person (unintentionally) from their community.
I believe, after centuries, people remember you because of your righteous things and not for your sins. This is also happened in case of idolatry when idols introduced in the human history. People made idols to remember their pious people.
These Ahadeeth are related to the above mentioned Surah Maryam’s Ayah and prove why did they call her, O Haroon’s sister…
Mughira b. Shu’ba reported:
When I came to Najran, they (the Christians of Najran) asked me: You read" O sister of Harun" (i. e. Hadrat Maryam) in the Qur’an, whereas Moses was born much before Jesus. When I came back to Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) I asked him about that, whereupon he said: The (people of the old age) used to give names (to their persons) after the names of Apostles and pious persons who had gone before them.
Sahi Muslim, Hadeeth No. 2135
Narrated Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent me to Najran. They said to me: 'Do you people not recite: O sister of Harun (19:28) - while between Musa and ‘Eisa there is such (gap) as there is?’ I did not know how to respond to them. So when I returned to the Prophet (ﷺ), I told him about that, and he said: ‘Why didn’t you tell them that they were named after their Prophets and righteous people before them.’”
Allah-humma inni a'aoozo bika min azaab al-jhanam va azaab al-qabar, va a'aooz bika min fitnat al mahyaa val mamaat, va min fitnat sha'ar maseeh ud-dajjal.
