Faux Profundity

So how many of you fall prey to faux profundity. Really obvious platitudes/cliches that are the spiritual equivalents of pop music.

I started a thread in the video forum, on a really, really silly rnb video for a song named “Real Talk”. Im not sure if the ironic effect is intentional, but if it is then its done masterfully. I have seen few things more schlocky than this.

There are the religious equivalents of this, where whats said has the appearance and is percieved as really profound and makes you all misty eyed, but is so shallow and often false upon examination.

Question is, how often do you fall prey to such shlocky, chicken-soupy-for-the-soul, standard lines of spiritual fodder, do you purvey it yourself sometimes.. things even you at some level object to when you say them?

Peace bro ravage

Yes I think there might be a few things that qualify.

“God became man and died for our sins, because He loves us.”

“It doesn’t matter if you pray to God or not, it is how good you are to your fellow citizen that counts!”

More politically …
“You are either with us or against us”

Re: Faux Profundity

^^

More politically correct would be to scream "Allah -ho-Akbar" when you slit an innocent's throat.

Re: Faux Profundity

^ yeadh and that too when that "innocent" has come in to your land killing your people and claiming it to be liberation....

Peace simplyme

I didn't mean to offend but what I wrote is true, logically at least. What you wrote is just emotion. It does not qualify as Faux Profundity to say Allah hu Akbar in any situation because Allah (SWT) truly is Great no matter what is happening. I'll assume you meant a goat or lamb when you said 'innocent's throat' ... And quite interestingly the idea of 'the lamb of God' is similar to what you have posted. If it is so 'evil' to do this act then why is it equivalent to 'love' when it was done to Jesus Christ?

Re: Faux Profundity

"We should all be allowed to make and learn from our own mistakes"

Re: Faux Profundity

lets not take this as an oppurtunity to disparage other religions. my intent was more introspective than pejorative, since frequently when thinking about these things I circulate around distracting, meaningless ideas.

"Faith is beyond reason. It isnt intuition. All you can do is submit to Allah and accept His Word"

I thought you had the ability to understand that when I meant an innocent, I am talking about human beings and not animals.

You are right in saying that God is Great in any circumstances even when innocent human beings are slaughtered.
