I have noticed demise of mother takes a big toll on daughters. My mom was in state of shock for about a year after Nani’s death, my neughbours is on medications after death of her mother.
But on the other hand, fathers death has little bearing if any on the sons. Despite all the longing and love for sons, men have. I have seen few of my friends and few family members who lost their dads, some quite unexpectedly and suddenly but i did not see much grief or a sense of loss.

Why is that?
Women are more 'sensitive' hence the more impact of a loss of beloved one.
Alot of men hide their grief and keep the pain in their heart, because they don't like people gathered around them and consoling them.
At times they joke and laugh with people but weep at night when they are alone, which is evident from their swollen red eyes which one can see in the morning.
