You guys think MQM can survive after Altaf leaves this party physically or spiritually?
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
I think it can, no supporter of MQM. But I beleive strongly Altaf is major hurdle in MQM to become a party that can appeal more voters.
If he leave or step down from MQM, this will be good for the party, they will have some one better, they will be better off with leader who can speak like normal people!!
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
^ kinda agree, Altaf has become the cancer for MQM, his dramay bazi of peer (fake) caused loss of many supporters, his exile without talks of return has turned many people away. But the question is, can MQM leave bhatta khori? can they leave blackmailing? can they take weapons away from teenagers?
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
But then there will be bloody fight within the ranks of MQM because the hardline militants among them wont give up easily.
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
^Wishful thinking. There is no such anti-Altaf/pro-Altaf divide in MQM.
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
There is Kheskeshan there was one and still there is !
where from those badar iqal , amir khan , Aafaq ahmed , Mansoor chaacha sorta guys emerged?
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
They can be laballed as agencies agents but what about that gentleman - Azeem Ahmed Tariq.
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
And all those hundreds of educated and gentle people who left MQM quietly in the early years.
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
Yes i agree with the topic starter...Altaf needs to go so MQM can prospur once again. But the goverment wont let them ever win.
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
I think MQM has huge potential provided they give up their gunda style politics.

Shamraz I do not support any party which has been made on religious or ethnic basis...
I think as a matter of principles it is wrong....
I think any political party which can not represent even the smallest minority in the country should not be allowed to do politics if we want to survive as one nation...
MQM/Altaf just exploited the identity crisis felt by mohajirs during Bhutto rule in Sind. It was wrong on the part of Bhutto to introduce quota system on ethnic basis over merit.....
You can not justify one wrong with another....
It is wrong to make Jamaat Islaami.....tehrik nifaaz fiqah jafria....or any party which is working to impose religious beliefs of one group on entire population....
It is wrong to make party for mojhajirs, sindhis, bolochis, or punjabis....who strive to make one group superior to others on ethnic grounds....
It is simply wrong and legally should not be allowed......

I agree with most of what you said. In fact, if it was up to me, I'd get rid of ethnic based provincial names, but that's diff. story for another time.
Anyways, coming back to the topic. MQM is a major party that has huge political based, and we cannot deny that. Also, MQM is the only party that truly represents middle and lower middle class people, unlike rest of the parties, but, unlike other parties, MQM has tendency to use violence to get what it wants. Thats the biggest negatives they have.
BTW, I was supporting MQM until May 12th, and I thought MQM should become a national party. Now, I doubt if that is going to happen anytime in near future.

Ehnicity and religious belief are personal matters...
People who exploit these things to gain their political objectives are evil people. They use common people's feelings for their evil goals.....They should not be allowed to do this.
As far as political leadership from educated middle classes is concerned it is the need of the hour in our country. However it should come from decent people and not an evil person like Altaf....

Well, Pakistan is a tribal society baring urban centers. In fact, most people have more loyalty to their clans than the country. That just fact of life, and govt hasn't done much to discouraged that.

This proves it was much more important in a society like ours for the govt to take measures for nation buliding and ban anything which encouraged division amongst people on the basis of ehtnicity or religion....
People are integrating slowly through inter marriages, nationa language, common intrests common education. Look this forum is an example where Pakistanis from every ethnicity discuss issues frankly without raising ethnic issues, proves it is not common people's problem. However these religious or political parties try to exploit people's feeling for their evil goals. Even so called mainstream political parties of NS and BB try to explotit ethnicity to gain cheap mileage....
Let's try to expose these evil people on this forum and wherever when they try to do this....
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
Elections and politicis are run by money. You need a lot of money, before you can run for assemblies. Thats why most politicians in pakistan are either businessmen or feudal landlords. A party representing middle class, cannot raise money for political campaigns, unless they go "bhatta khori".
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
It might be a better party if he was gone.
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
From what I have heard 'Syed Mustafa Kamal' is being lined up to take over from Altaf Husain.
Anyone else heard this rumour?
Re: Fate of MQM: Once Altaf is gone
^ You should be more worried about Lalo Prasad Yadov
