FATA now and whats next?

Nothing personal LOTD. At individual level we can all change and learn. The problem comes when a large group of people refuse to move beyond the stone age.

FATA people have to change, otherwise the outsiders will continue forcing their will. Pakistani military is local, and they may leave. Ask Taliban in Afghanistan how much fun it is to be bombed by daisy cutters.

Our FATA is like mini Afghanistan. So at least try to learn from Afghani mistakes. Afghanis are so primitive "as a nation" that they have not been able to establish a stable order in their society.

It is not good to have false pride. If you are poor, and destitute nation, then accept your status, learn from your mistakes and try to become civilized. What does becoming "civilized" mean? It means you allow establishment of police, and multi layer court system. You respect that system even when it comes across as slow. You respect business rules, so that people from all over the world want to come in your country and establish trade.

Forget about Kashmir or Pindi. Whining and blaming others won't help people in FATA. Learn and try to figure out why tribals areas are a cesspool of anarchy and lawlessness from 1947 (and before).

Ask yourself why an ordinary FATA person can feel safe, and go buy land and start business in Punjab and Sindh. Then why Sindhis and Punjabis do not go and establish trade (in large numbers) in FATA. Where is the hospitality, honesty for an ordinary joe? It is non-existing precisely because of FATA's tribal culture.

Re: FATA now and whats next?

burqaposh, your contention may be very wise but i am sorry it is not that simple as you are making it to be. Tribal people right now think they are caught between three evils. Taleban, Pakistan Army, and NATO/US. Right now people in many places have given warning to both Army and Taleban not to enter their areas. But this is a sign a civial war. Ultimately, they may decide which evil can garauntee safety of life...and thwy may decide it is US/NATO under UN mandate. And then the mad generals will not be left with 3 Ks (Kabul, Kashmir, Kahuta) they are zealously pursuing for decades.

Why doesn't Pakistan accept a very sensible proposal by Afghan Govt of a joint force of Afghans, Pakistanis, and US/NATO that will do petrolling both sides of the border?

And you people too should do some soul-searching instead of shifting the blame to FATA people. World is no more buying what you people say. No more takers of the denial line. Since Zia era jehadi/terrorist networks are being used by the establishment to gain strategic influence in Afghanistan and to annex Kashmir, which is now proving to be self-destructive. But we are still clinging to it.

Thank you for your kind remarks. I see your point and hopefully you understand mine. So it is not good to start a "he said she said" discussion.

Zia did his bad deeds and so did Mush. But they are gone (one from this world and one from his seat).

It is time that FATA people learn to obey the laws of civilized people. Sure these laws are not perfect, but they are better than obsolete stone age Jirga and FCR system.

you say FATA will accept UN mandate and I say Amen brother.

Remember the UN will mandate the eviction of Arabs and other Jihadis. And the day FATA tribals agree to that, we won't even be having these discussions.

My fear is that FATA will become a mini Afghanistan with similar level of anarchy, and lawlessness for the next 30 years.

Re: FATA now and whats next?

Yes you are right in a sense. The generals are trying to make it as explosive for NATO/US as they can so when US/NATO enters FATA they face stiff resistence. We on our own can deal with Mullahs shullahs as we have done for centuries provided the manipulative hand of Rawalpindi is taken off us (togethor with that the ideological inspirational centers like Mansura, Raiwand, Deoband, etc.). We don't have any fanatic homegrown ideology.

What are the generals doing is dangerous for themselves as well. Imagine US airforce bombing Kahuta in 2010 or 2011 followed by a subcontracting to India for the next 3000 years,

Lets see..its the indians who did 9/11. They are the one supporting Al queda and talibanis and they even got so many miltiants in pakistan which are fighting against pakistani army. indians even influnced mullahs to preach voilence and hatred whoever supports US.

just one question...are you high? must be of good quality .

Re: FATA now and whats next?

Regarding what the people in FATA are capable of, and how ridiculous the AMERICAN (and sometimes our own government's) claims regarding the people of that region can be, I just posted a new thread here
