Fat Free Diet...

please share some ideas and recipes for fat free diet especially for desi food and sweet stuff, if any. Thanks

Re: Fat Free Diet…

I think most vegetables are fat free …:hmmm:

you only got to make sure you dont add aloo and oil .. and the rest is good to go …
So here is how you cook your desi salan fat-free or low fat salan ..

  • soften onions in quarter cup water .. cover the pot and cook … when onions soften add in garlic and continue to stir fast … water shoud dry out completely at this stage … if it sticks to the pan , give a splash of water and continue to stir …

add in tomato paste … and continue to cook with the lid on … when the tomato paste gets reduces to 50% add in salt and chilli powder , garam masala and some turmeric …

add in the vegetable … lower the heat and let it cook in steam … when the vegetable is cooked enough ( some like it just steamed while others like its really softened and more like a bharta ) its done .. add in fresh corriander and enjoy …

Re: Fat Free Diet...

you can do vermicelli in low fat or fat free milk ...

or you can do fruit smoothies .. dont add yoghurt or milk .. just plain fruit with crushed ice ... tastes yummy

Re: Fat Free Diet...

sighh thats all I have been having.. I want more variety!! I want the fatty and fried stuff in low fat..d oes that even make sense?

and yep I tried the sawayan ith fat free milk.. no pain one day and then the next day I had pain!! I dont know why :( I have also tried custard powder in fat free milk.. it tasted blah but satisfied my sweet tooth!!

Re: Fat Free Diet...

I guess all the daals are fat free too. Just do not do any tarka.

BBQ your meat and use it in your sabzi and salan , do not use any oil for any zabzi or salan.

Re: Fat Free Diet...

you can make jelly in different flavours ...

and you can also make rasmalai ... use low fat powder milk ... and cook it in low fat or skimmed milk .. i know this one definitely works ...

For spicy stuff ... you can do the following :
dip brinjal slices in thin layer of baisan and put it on the baking sheet and into the oven .. when one side gets done turn for the other side to get done too ... make sure to add the spices into the baisan ... and if you must then just brush a drop of oil on top of the chip when it gets done on one side ...

Re: Fat Free Diet…

oh cb that eggplan/baisan sounds goooood.. I have to try that! I so need something like that

You need egg for ras malai? that’s a big no no for now with gallstones :frowning:

Mirch.. yep boiled rice, boiled daal, and steamed veggies is what I am having these days.. I also like the idea for BBQ.. how come I didnt think of that!! :smack:

Re: Fat Free Diet…

Because I am smarter than you are . :snooty:

Re: Fat Free Diet...

GTG , are you avoiding spices intentionally?

Coz if you arent , then really you dont have to have bland food ... all you gotta do is cook your basic masala in a few tablespoons water instead of oil ! not much difference in taste ...

Re: Fat Free Diet...

And I forgot to mention , why not have soups ? there is hardly any oil or fat content in them ...

Re: Fat Free Diet...

mirchi.. I have a pregnancy brain.. you dont :p

CB.. nopse nto really..one of my episodes was triggered after eating spicy food (just the regular masala though) so since then I am too afraid to try anything spicy until at least the pregnancy is over! I will experiment later before surgery :D

soups dont fill me up.. I have tried those but remember I am 8 months pregnant and I am always starving!!! soups do nothing! I want a lot of solid food!!

quick question.. if I want dahi bhally and I soak the fried bhallay in water or milk and then squeeze it between the palm of my hands.. would that remove the oil in it?

Re: Fat Free Diet...

nope GTG , that wont take out the oil from the bhallas ...

What you can do however is the following :

brush a thin layer of oil on a baking sheet .. then spread a thin layer of the dahi balla mixture on it ... and into the oven ... let it cook on one side .. then flip to the other side ...

when they are done ... dip them in hot water ... and then enjoy with yoghurt ...

But you have to make them really thin so that they get cooked from inside ... they wont fluff up , but they will do fine to kill the craving ...

Re: Fat Free Diet...

Mix roti or double roti in your soups to give them some body.

Re: Fat Free Diet...

yup brilliant idea by Mirch ... you can either mix in the bread or just have some garic bread with it ... without the butter on it ...

Re: Fat Free Diet...

Don't know if this will help you or not but this is what I do. As much as i dislike desi good, it's nearly impossible for me to avoid it altogether. I eat roti with salan and just don't eat boti. My diet is technically fat free..

Re: Fat Free Diet...

great ideas... for now I am craving the BBQ, once I am done with that I am trying the baked pakora thing!

I dun like garlic bread without butter!!! :(

Theorist.. I wish I could do that.. I want a lot of desi food :D

Re: Fat Free Diet...

Me too , I have to have one meal with desi food as main course every day.

Re: Fat Free Diet...

Make some shesh kababs , seikh kababs , chicken tikkas , siekh boti and what not and use those to masalafy any of your blend food with them.

Re: Fat Free Diet...

A friend just did an aweosme bbq the other day. She marinated the botis in bbq sauce and shan tikka boti masala. SOOOO good. I want me some now. but make sure to check the fat content of bbq sauce.

Re: Fat Free Diet...

I just called my mom and requested the BBQ chicken.. cant wiat for dinner :D

mirch.. cant have red meat but I guess I can try that stuff with chicken qeema!

I should have opened this thread long ago!
