Fasting whilst on "holiday" ???!!!

Hi/ Sallam all:wave:

**Just wanted some thoughts… if you know its Ramadhan coming up.. and you plan to travel for pleasure.. whats your opinions about fasting whilst on holiday? I mean I understand ur technically on “safar” and therefore have some “excuse” not to fast , but as its a holiday for pleasure and uve booked it knowing full well its Ramadhan.. what wud you guys make of it?.. Should one continue to fast if so one wishes… and if u dont fast because ur “exempted”…how does that sit with you???:hmmm:
**
**Would love to hear what u guys make of this ! and if there is any “Islamic” take on this .. please do share!
Many thanks **

Re: Fasting whilst on "holiday" ???!!!

A travel is travel. As of my understanding, the reason of travel is not important but the fact that you are technically excused when you are in safar. So you wont get a gunah if you do not fast and as long as you comeback and make up, it should be ok. However, as you booked your plans knowingly that you are doing it in Ramadan, you will get a gunah for that.

Re: Fasting whilst on “holiday” ???!!!

:bummer:.. Thank so much TLK.. really??? Yallah … so if one fasts even whilst on "holiday " and wishes to and completes all salah and Taraweehs then its accepted inshallah and therefore shud not incur “gunnah”?..

**Jazakallah khair **

Poppies, I was just thinking loud. I am no Aalim. Its a very good question. You should ask a scholar for the right answer....

See, forget about 'vacation' .. what if I want to go to Pakistan during my kids summer vacation cause that is the only time I can travel as a family, and now Ramzan are falling during that time? Its a good question and I like to know the answer too.

Re: Fasting whilst on “holiday” ???!!!

Jazakallah khair TLK and of course, I totally get what ur saying… and of course I know youre not a sholar but respect ur opinion nevertheless.. thanks for responding:k:

Re: Fasting whilst on "holiday" ???!!!

I would defer to "actions are judged by intentions"... so if one takes a travel holiday in Ramadan despite knowing its Ramadan and there are other times of the year that a holiday can be taken, then it's probably not right... however, if that's the only time of the year that a holiday can be taken (i.e. a person has considered other options for time for a holiday, but it's not possible), and Ramadan happens to fall in the same time period, then so be it, and one may be exempt based on his/her circumstances.

Again, I'm no Aalim but that logic makes sense to me.

Re: Fasting whilst on “holiday” ???!!!

**LC:wave: Jazakallah hair for your comments and views… my gut feeling is to fast whilst on “holiday” and inshalah intend to fast as if one wasnt travelling.. this has given me food for thought though!.. Thanks for your imput and inshallah hope ur well .. Regards **

Totally agree. Can’t argue with logic. :k:

Re: Fasting whilst on “holiday” ???!!!

Poppies if you do not fast during travel, you will be compensating later on for the rozay you had missed. So there is no escape anyway. If I am in your place, i will fast. Coz 1st its easy to fast in Ramadan , since you know its the fasting month, you are mentally prepared and everyone around you is fasting. 2ndly knowing myself, i am very lazy and there are 100% chances that i wont be able to keep my missed fasts anywhere very soon :bummer: so better i fast in this month, even if i am on holidays.

Re: Fasting whilst on "holiday" ???!!!

*ha na. thats what i said.. one is more inclined to continue with fasting and all and Allah swt knows best .. May Allah swt give us all hidaayat and eman Ameen Cheers hun *
