fasting when pregnant

I just found out I was about 4 weeks pregnant and now ramadan has started. I’m feeling ok and well enough to fast. My husband though thinks I’m being irresponsible since we have 18 and a half hour fasts where I live. From a religious perspective I can’t see anything that gives me room to not fast if I’m feeling ok. Is there any reason it’s not safe for me to fast?

As far as other mums to be on here have mentioned and those who have had babies being pregnant you are exempt from fasting plus in early stages of pregnancy it is important to get all the right nutrients while ur baby develops! Hopefully someone with more experience will reply! Congratulations on the pregnancy x

Re: fasting when pregnant

You are nuts if you think it is okay to starve for 18 hours. Just remember you are not only responsible for your wellbeing but also that little one growing inside you.

Here we go again…please don’t keep an 18.5 hour fast while you’re pregnant

Re: fasting when pregnant

You may feel that you are upto fasting but the baby isn’t so please don’t fast and just make the most of this blessed month by listening and reading the quran, staying positive, maybe you can help out by just leaving some munchies for people praying taraweeh at masjid or have Your husband leave water bottles
I am not for you lifting water bottle crates. You can send iftar to neighbors. Make the most of this month thru good deeds. Just don’t fast for 18 plus hours.

ROFL

Re: fasting when pregnant

Sorry for being rude, but its common sense. The first trimester is when the pregnancy can go either way…why would you put your baby, your body thru such a thing.
Also, in the future if you have any questions …you should just call the doctor’s office instead of waiting. The nurse can rely your message to the doctor and get you an answer.

No fasting while breastfeeding either.

Re: fasting when pregnant

Guys,

Its not as black and white for a lot of people.

Yesterday my younger sister fasted while being 6 weeks…I yelled at her of course but she honestly didn’t know and never even thought about it. And she’s already got 2 kids. She said she felt fine and didn’t feel she needed an exemption and that’s how lots of women view it.

I would never consider it but its because I’ve seen moms discuss it here on the Parenting forum so I’m well aware.

First few months are crucial to baby’s development, they need all the nourishment they can get so please be very careful when considering fasting for such long hours.

Theres a reason why the deen exempts pregnant women… Regardless of what Imam Sahib says

Re: fasting when pregnant

dana you’re either someone I know and therefore being unneccesarily cruel to use an account to claim I am pregnant or you’re a random hacker, either way I am not impressed. Mod’s please be advised that I believe my account has been hacked.

Re: fasting when pregnant

I’ve got a question too, I’m currently in my TWW (me and hubby have been trying for 6 months now) and have no idea if I will get pregnant this month or not. Ive been a bit worried about fasting, I can’t just not fast incase I’m pregnant, it doesn’t feel a good enough reason to me? But I’m just concerned about whether it can affect implantation and reduce my chances of conception? Has anyone been through this?

Re: fasting when pregnant

I think you wouldn’t be exempt in the TWW. The embryo dsnt need that much in the very early stages.

Re: fasting when pregnant

Who said embryo doesn’t need much in early stage of pregnancy? :smack:

Lasting twilight, talk your doctor.
