I want to know the niyyat for fasting other then Ramadan. When fasting to seek something from Allah, What kind of fasting is allowed and what days are allowed. It is Friday today and I am keeping a fast, I just read that Friday fast shoudl be avoided if not fasted day before or after. Can someone please answer my questions. Thank You.
Re: Fasting for seeking something
Niyyat should be simple as “I observe this nafali (voluntary) fast for Allah SWT seeking this or that (depend what is for)”. There are three types of fasting 1. Fast of Ramdan 2. Fast of fulfilling a vow 3. Fast of expiation. These three are obligatory fasts. If your fast didn’t falls in these three categories then its an optional (nafalli/ voluntary) fast which can be observed any day except friday as it is disliked to single out ‘Friday’ as a day of fast. I heard there is hadith in Sahih Bukhari where our Prophet Muhammad
forbid us fasting on friday. Some narrated added that if a person intends to fast only on friday. The days which recommended for voluntary fasts are on the days of the full moon i.e. 13th, 14th, 15h, days of the lunar month. Beginning of these three days in every month is from Monday or from Thursday, which is also narrated in hadith Sahih Bukhari. Our Prophet Muhammad :saw: used to fast on Monday, Thursday and Monday in the next week also.

I heard its Saturday that should be avoided if not fasted day before or after. That is because Saturday is the days of Jews.
Re: Fasting for seeking something

Re: Fasting for seeking something
Islam is simple and easy to practice. you may want to make a niyat but it's NOT even mandatory...you may make an intenstion in your heart...no language is required...it may be recommended. you may say it in Arabi, Urdu or whatever language you speak. siyaam-e-Haajaat is just a nafl siyaam.
