I found this on FB, don’t know how true it is, but am so glad that I don’t like fast food, specially McDonald’s…after reading this..it made me want to throw up
“Can you guess what McDonald’s food item this is??? Say hello to mechanically separated chicken. It’s what all fast-food chicken items are made of. It’s chicken nuggets, patties, and the meat in fajitas… In addition the processed frozen chicken in stores is made from this.. Basically the entire chicken is smashed and pressed through a sieve… bones, eyes, feet, guts and all. It comes out looking like this… There is more, because it’s crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, and soaked in it.. Then because it taste gross it is re-flavored artificially. Finally since it is weirdly colored like ‘Pepto Bismol’ pink, it is dyed with artificial color.. This is what people eat and feed to their children… Enjoy !!!”
its not made up. this is what a lot of what ends up in fast food burgers looks like. also ends up in ground beef in supermarkets. recently random tests in the UK showed a lot of ground beef was 10-20% ground horse meat. they basically have a recipe in terms of actual meat, hydrolyzed proteins, etc to increase shelf life and color. food may not be actual food if you look at the supply chain. just food-like replacements.
Oh my! I don’t eat fast food because I only eat zabihah halaal. But I’d always heard the meat at fast food restuarants was not ‘real’ meat and I never understood how they can possibly get away with feeding it to masses of people and them not noticing or getting sick so I assumed they were rumors. If this is not false this is truly eye opening information.
its disgusting!!! i am another who doesnt eat fast food junk, i was aware of the crap that goes into this stuff, but that picture has really made me sick.
Another item that goes through a very similar process is believe it or not Margerine!! all man made, gets bleached, dyed, flavoured and then injected with vitamins so it can get passed through food agencys, i now stick only stick to butter.
Disgusting yes. But I’m not sure if I believe it to be true. Ever since that Supersize Me documentary McDonalds have been getting loads of stick for being unhealthy, and they’ve tried to implement all these changes to account for that like introducing carrot sticks in Happy Meals and clearly labelling the nutrition content on all food. Also, if a burger says 100% beef with a pinch of salt (cus that’s what they say) then they could get sued big time for false advertising if it was a lie…
I dunno… it looks disgusting but I dunno if I believe it.
nnabid, highly processed burgers, nuggets etc are made like this. it’s a fact. and your burger can be 100% from a cow but it doesn’t have to be the normal parts we would usually eat.
I also don’t believe it to the extent written in the original post. I only eat zabiha halal…but still. Fast food is gross, accepted. But false advertising can get you in a buttload of trouble. Taco Bell is one of the recent chains i can think of that has been bashed - they basically had like 20% meat and the rest was pink’goo’ or something. So then FDA got on their case cos there’s a certain percentage of meat that needs to be present in your food in order to be labeled as ‘meat’ (gross, i know) otherwise you get fined heavily. Taco Bell went nuts with advertising their ‘real meat’ after that. With apologies and claims of purity and all that jazz.
Anyways, point being…fast food is gross. But laws are in place for a reason. We live in socieites where a person can get away with only so much. There’s a lot of accountability in the West.
It’s not necessarily McD’s but yes, that is the full extent of some available processed meat products… which bit sounds far fetched?
If you’re going to use mechanically reclaimed waste animal parts, reconstructed as food, you are going to have to apply chemical processes. Read the post I linked.
I read the article and all I could think was “food-conspiracy-theorist”. I’m not supporting fast-food industries or their processes - I’m just saying it’s not as bad as media/journalism make it. Pretty much the case for everything in the world. I’m prob gonna get bashed for saying this lol.
Eating processed foods, you need to accept that some degree of chemical processes were applied. You can’t act surprised eating at McD’s, and go “omg it’s not organic?”. Think of hot dogs, sausages etc. Anyway, loads of food is disgustingly made when mass-produced…oily, starchy, ridiculous portion sizes…
And idk how it is in the UK - but the US has crazy laws, if you label something one thing or the other…it leads to huge payouts for the FDA and other private cases who catch them. And it works like a domino effect…Taco Bell was screwed, and literally a week later McD’s changed their ingredients in their beef patties cos they also had the pink slime. Rather than risk it, most companies tend to walk the line. So yes, accountability is quite the bi-otch…and like I said, you can only get away with so much here.
Also…i thought Europe was way more stringent with chemically processed foods/GMO’s/environmental issues in general.
OMG just heard some more gross fast-food news and had to post it - ever had a Findus beef lasagna before?? Well sorry, it wasn’t beef, it was 100% HORSEMEAT!!! AHHHHHHHHHh
