fashion design portfolio!

hey guys needed some ideas/opinions..ive just finished my degree, thank god its over, really wana persure my love for fashion, soooooo before enrolling in a fashion course, i need to have a folio, now even though il be studying in Sydney, i want to create a folio that focuses on ethnic fashion with a modern twist…

i wanted to create themes for my designs, i wanted to create a collection of pieces that are a fusion of south east asian(indian pakistani, srilankan etc) fashion with east asian influences(chinese, japanese, korean vietamese etc). i love all things oriental(duno why jus do) and wanted to infuse that with my love of ethnic wear…sarees, salwars, bridal wear etc

i want to create designs for the new age ethnic woman who is just the right mix of tradional and modern- who values her hertiage and who has seen the world, traveled-duno if that makes sense…

need opionions…worth doing??? has it been done before??? Is it a stupid idea??? would love to hear from fashion students

Re: fashion design portfolio!

Its a very good idea in theory, you need to put pen/pencil to paper and see how the designs are going to work do a few in colour then show us and we can tell you further :D

Re: fashion design portfolio!

Also look at current trends and see whats in and develope your portfolio from there, that will also give you a heads up about present/past/future trends, and also give the course leaders a good indication of what you know and how you want to pursue this in the future.

Re: fashion design portfolio!

Re: fashion design portfolio!

Thats ok hopfully i was of some use :chai:

Re: fashion design portfolio!

i agree with kiwi that u need to look at current and past trends but dont let that influence ur originality....a good designer is one who thinks outside the box (i.e. trendsetter)

your fusion idea sounds amazing and i can picture some real trendsetting pieces....lets see what you come up with ...i would show your designs to ppl u trust but wouldnt post them publicly
