Anyone have any advice on farshi ghararas? How difficult are they to walk in? Would they work at a mehndi? (i’m thinking of having one made for my mehndi)
Any picture of a true, traditional farshi gharara would be MOST helpful!
Thanks!!

What IS a farshi gharara?
Re: farshi gharara??
yeh same here^?
Re: farshi gharara??
from what i remember, and hopefully i'm right, a farshi gharara is one with a train at the back. they are full length from the top, but at the back they have that western style trail. not too long though, but just enough. they need ample space to walk with. that is, don't have anyone standing too close to you, otherwise they will step on the train. and they are easier to handle, as in you don't need anyone to hold it up while walking down anywhere. they also require extra kapra than normal ghararas. so i'm not too sure how well they might work in a mehndi, since in a mehndi you're mostly sitting. but it's up to you. i dont have a picture of one at hand right now, but when i do, i will be sure to post it.
Re: farshi gharara??
^ The trail isn't really Western-like -- there's far more fabric involved, and it comes around the front too. My wedding gharara is a pseudo farshi (not quite as long as they normally are). Mine is pretty easy to walk in, especially for a dulhan, since she usually has a sis or cousin or friend helping her along.
Re: farshi gharara??
very cool...thanks!
They're really old school, so that's prob why no one's heard much of them. By what i understand, my nani acutally wore one to her wedding. I want my mehndi to be ultra traditional and old fashioned since the wedding will most prob end up being very contemporary (you just cannot recreate a pakistani wedding in the US: )
Re: farshi gharara??

Re: farshi gharara??
a fashi gharara doesn’t have to have a train…
the main difference between a regular gharara and a farshi is that the “gote” is lower (mid calf) on a farshi, and a regular gharara’s “gote” is at the knees.
the second difference is a farshi gharara is made from 6-8 metres of fabric, whereas a regular gharara is made from 4-5 metres of fabric. so a farshi will have a lot of gheyr.
^ that purple/pink gharara is one of my all-time favourites! ![]()
so a regular gharara is this- the band of kaam at her knee is the “gote” im referring to…
![]()
and a farshi is like the purple one above, where the “gote” is lower.
and gharara’s are traditionally always two-legged.
