Farouk Chi Flat Iron

Hi everyone!

Does anyone own the Farouk Chi flat iron, or ever used it? Is it worth the price or is there a better flat iron out on the market? I’ve been reading online reviews of it, and most are very positive, but what is stopping me is the price (around $120 retail).

I have thick wavy hair that frizzes at the very mention of humidity and wanted to buy a flat iron that gives me that salon blowdry look after using it. So far I’ve tried Conair and Vidal Sasson, but both can never seem to straighten my hair completely. I get these weird waves after a couple of hours no matter what the weather.

Anyone know of how I can get my hair straight, without having to permanently straighten it? I want the option of being able to keep it straight one day, and wavy/curly another.

Thanks for the help!

I own it and use it regularly and I love it. It works extremely well on my hair, which is also very thick and wavy.

Is $120 in American dollars or Canadian? I paid a lot more for it in Canadian dollars ...way too much actually. :(

Thanks MehnazQ. Do you recommend the Turbo or the regular model? I can't seem to tell the difference, except that the turbo has a temperature gage.

I've also heard that the Chi works wonders in rain (the weather is quite humid in the south where I live)--are the claims true? Does it really keep hair straight after a rainy day?

The $120 is in american dollars, but I found some deals on Ebay for less than that. But I think I'm probably going to purchase from a store, not online.

I got mine from my salon and I think they may have ripped me off cause another Guppan here told me she got it for cheaper than what I paid for. Oh well.

It does work really well in the rain. My hair tends to curl when I put it in a pony tail and the ends always curl but that's just how my hair is. I may have to go through the front parts of my hair in the morning with the straightener but that's about it.

In the rain, it is excellent. I used to use the Conair flat iron before and my hair would frizz whenever it would rain or get humid. There is less of that now that I am using the Farouk straightener.

I have the regular model. I don't know how the Turbo is any better/worse than the basic one I have.

You know when I first heard about the Chi, the price was much higher than it is now. I think they may have lowered the price b/c of some Wigo (sp?) brand which is selling at about $75.

In the past I purchased the cheap irons thinking that I could save the money I would have spent on a more expensive one.
Was I wrong!! :teary3: :teary3:

I think I’ll be buying myself an early Eid gift this year…

with this straighter does your hair frizz in humidity? I went to paki this summer and straightened my hair and my hair was still frizzy...got really annoying. Are there any products out there that can keep your hair from frizzing in the humidity?

Go for the turbo because u can control the heat setting. The oringal chi goes up really high in temp n can be super damaging.
But the results r totally worth it.

noone uses the Muster? thats awesome!

i have long and quite curly hair.. and nothing has ever worked better than the muster... and my hair doesnt frizz up in humidity or rainy whether either..

so its a device to iron your hair? :konfused:

it basically is an iron

in the good old 80's, girls use to put their hair on an ironing table and get their sisters/friends to iron their hair..

I have tried hot tools($30), wigo ($75), chi($150) etc.
I swear I see no difference. I ended up returning those expensive
irons and kept the hot tools one.

If u first blow dry your hair and then straighten it after a while
I think it looks a lot better. That is if u have time to go thru all this.

^^ yup ure right.. I dont straighten my hair often (seriously does a number on my hair) but when i do i usually wash it a night before n i use the ferouk chi biosilk n then flat iron.. gives great result.. shiny n healthy..

For me, it works better if I let my hair dry naturally and then go through it with a straightener. If I blow dry it first, it makes my hair look dryer.

ferouk chi biosilk
what's that?

my hair is really dry-looking..even when straight...so what is do is that after I wash my hair, I imediately massage some baby oil in it - not a lot (i dont like to grease my hair), but like a spoon of baby oil - and I let my hair dry naturally. Also by letting my hair dry naturally i get really nice curl/waves that are not frizzy. To straighten my hair, i used to blow dry it first then use teh straightner. Then my cousin got a me a straightner from her high school (throgh one of her cosmetic classes)..it was only 50 bucks canadian..and it works really good! the only thing is tht its a thin rod and for my thick hair it takes a while to straighten it...but the secret is the baby oil..when my hiar is straight, is so silky and shiny ...it looks like my hair is natrually straight, instead of thaat i-got-my-hair-straightened look..know what imean?? hope this tip helps!

Do you put the baby oil just on the ends, or all over?

I've been using olive oil in my hair and it works really well. I rub it into the scalp and all over my hair about half an hour before I wash it all out. Coconut oil also works really well.

MehnazQ can I use the olive oil used for cooking? Btw, does it leave a smell? Or shampooing takes care of that?

Yeah, the olive oil for cooking. You are supposed to use only a little bit or else you will smell like freedom fries.

This is what you do. Before washing your hair, you warm up a little bit of olive oil. I guess you can use any oil. Apply it to the roots, ends, etc. and then place a hot towel over your hair to keep the heat locked in. Leave it on for about 20-30 minutes and then wash your hair.

Thanks MehnazQ. I'll try it this weekend!
