Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Farooq Sattar was arrested on Friday night from Karachi on charges of hate speech, reported DawnNews.
Sattar was arrested from the Sharae Faisal area of the metropolis while he was on his way to a private wedding function. He was traveling with his protocol, which included guards and his driver. Protocol members were searched and were not arrested.
The MQM leader had not applied for a pre-arrest bail in the hate speech case. He is expected to be presented on Saturday morning at the anti-terrorism court.
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) had also declared the MQM leader as an absconder in multiple cases.
Sattar and the others were charged with listening to, organising and facilitating a speech made by Altaf Hussain in which he railed against the military establishment and security agencies. Hussain was also accused of inciting MQM workers to attack the offices of two media houses in the same speech.
On Aug 22, the day of the speech, Sindh Rangers had taken Sattar and MQM leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan into custody from outside Karachi Press Club.
The two leaders had intended to address a press conference in connection with the attack on ARY News; however, as they were about to start, Rangers officials arrived at the site and asked both leaders to accompany them to Rangers headquarters.
Aaand he is released… What drama!! Looks like Karachi police was sitting farigh tonight, thought to get some coverage in media which as usual is going bonkers right now
Sugh stupid steps will give chance to extremist group showing urdu speaking ppl that.. look ur political leaders don’t have any importance as they don’t have power of guns…
All political leaders of other parties have local gundesss.
No one can touch them in their area. Zulfiqar mirza can go to his areas police stations and utter filth n no one can say a single word to him … hence it proves might is right…
Establishment need to avoid such thinking to get prevailed.
It can be your opinion which may or may not be true… It can be weighed only after elections. For me I feel clear divide in urdu speaker’s vote bank. Whihc is sure good for establishment.
For me altaf hussain shud be very clear in his thoughts. He is still keeping things vague. The tahreek which he started and got popular mohajir vote due to obvious reasons was to get rights of urdu speakers with in the boundary of pakistan. His current state of thoughts clearly shows that he ( and for that matter all who are following him ) wants to be separate from pakistan ( which may be fine for him and his followers ) . For me and many around me , they dont support the idea of separating from pakistan. Many of our fore fathers migrated for paksitan twice… not for a country for urdu speaking people.
