KARACHI: Farahnaz Ispahani, media adviser to President Asif Ali Zardari and wife of Pakistan’s former ambassador to the United States, has said that she had fled to the US for fear that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) might kidnap her and subsequently force Haqqani to sign a confession in order to implicate President Zardari in the memo scandal.

Ispahani’s claims were reported in a Sunday Times article authored by Christina Lamb. The article further alleged that the Pakistani military was “steadily silencing opponents”.

The article moreover stated that Haqqani’s life was in danger.

“What we’re seeing is the systematic killing or silencing of anyone who stands up to the institutionalisation of a militarised Islamist state, who advocates positive relations with the West or stands up for tolerance,” Ispahani told The Sunday Times. “I’m scared, even the government can’t even protect itself.”

Well you have to give it to the military and intelligence agencies, they are still going about with their practices. It seems they don't even care about these things any more.

Re: Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI

This is pure BS by Isphani...

If ISI was willing to kidnap her, then he fleding to US was not possible, 2ndly, her husband already confessed and resigned lastly and more importantly, it they wanted to continue with the proceedings, they could have arranged Mansoor Ijaz's visit to Pakistan was easier to get him here then kidnapping her...

and one who manages to run out of the clutches of any intelliegence agency normally keep their mouth shut.. unless and otherwise likes of Isphani have other motives in mind, because her husband was US ambassador in Pakistani Embassy...

Re: Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI

While the ISI chases and threatens civilians and journalists, even tiny countries like Norway have their spies running wild across Pakistan:

And the Taliban bomb us every week.

ISI is clearly a security threat to Pakistan.

Re: Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI

If a conspiracy like memogate is possible
If Saleem Shezad is killed
If Osama lives in Cantonment are
If Imran gets hundreds lotay
If top leaders of Pakistan are killed
If you can not found hundreds missing persons
If a prime minister with two third majority can be imprisoned
How it can be a bs ?

Neither the report was a news to me, nor the rebuttal. There are some people about whom you can always make an educated guess. Like when Asma Jahangir speaks, you can always mute your TV set and still tell accurately what she must have said.

Ispahani denies Sunday Times report

Farahnaz Ispahani, wife of embattled ex-Pakistan ambassador to US Husain Haqqani, has rejected the reports attributed to her that she ran away to US fearing abduction.

Farahnaz said she didn’t give interview to anyone adding that she respected ISI and Army. “I came here to meet my children and going home soon.”

Britain’s Sunday Times quoted Ispahani that she ran away from Pakistan fearing Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) might kidnap her to force her husband, Husain Haqqani, to sign a confession and implicate the president in the memogate scandal.

Christina Lamb, a foreign correspondent for The Sunday Times, who filed story on Pakistan from Washington, is banned from entering Pakistan after being deported from the country in 2001.

Lamb wrote that the memogate scandal involving Husain Haqqani, who is facing trial for treason, was “trumped up”

Re: Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI

time will tell who is truthful and who isn't.

Re: Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI

We have already had over 60 years of Pak Army/ISI history.

We already know what the ISI does to it's own countrymen.

Re: Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI

I was thinking the very same thing......and that's why I am giving her and Ijaz both the benefit of doubt......

Re: Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI

Bull****

Re: Farahnaz says fled Pakistan for fear of kidnapping by ISI

yeah whatever she says must be true, we are so gullible...

if ISI was behind her, it must be way easier and beneficial to facilitate her "disappearance" in a foreign country. lesser pressure, lesser outcry. thugs to do such jobs are present everywhere.

she may have fled knowing that her husband is not gonna make it, zardari is trying to save his own ____, he cannot help her. so she fled while she could.
