Fancy weddings!

OK guys I was looking around on the AOL Afghan board, and I always find interesting things these Cali Afghans say, some are very interesting and funny. Anyhow, someone wrote this, tell me if this is soo damn silly and wrong.

Guys, I went to this wedding last night khoe, it was held at the Baltimore Millennium Hotel in Downtown, LA on Grand and 5th or 6th St..and OHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYY GOD, naamayfahmum az kujah shuroo kunum!!

The hotel was soooo incredibly elegant!! I literally felt as though I was in France in the 1800s, I swear! loll I know I may sound corny, but this wedding was the most SURREAL experience of my LIFE and I just thought I’d share with you girls.

The first few hours of guests night was spent in this spacious dim room, lavished with GORGEOUS bouquets and candles, where drinks, fine appetizers, wine was served and classical sitar music was listened to. In the center of the appetizer table was a HUGE ice carved swan..lol E utaawq yaak sile dasht dega. But all it merely was, was an appetizer room.. :frowning:

The next part of the night was the Nikkah. The Nikkah room was 10 times more impressive than the appetizer room. It was HUGGGGGE and INCREDIBLY elaborate. Lavished with candles, bouquets, a long white carpet scattered with a liberal amount of rose petals. The Nikkah was laid out like a Christian reception. All the guests were facing the mullahs, wakils, groom, etc. And in between the guests and Nikkah group lay a long white carpet, scattered with rose petals. Towards the end of the reception, the bride came out with her lime colored dress and sat on the stage, very sangeen, while the Quran e Shariff was held on top of her head. Goom’ish koe, I don’t even wanna get started with how AMAZINGLY GORGEOUS she looked. She looked literally looked like a princess.

The last part of the night was the ceremony. Once the doors opened, everyone’s jaws dropped!! Another long white carpet, rose petals, tall bouquets, amazing and very elaborate stage, 3 musicians and a DJ. The room even had actual high balconies all around it, where the bride and groom later went to cut the cake.

There was even a little corner where a few bare footed American women dressed up in white gypsy clothing and served tea out of this long antique looking teaholder..lol

Just before dinner 5 brides maids came out, following flower girls and boys, following the bride and groom.

The food was just awesome and the guests were dressed and groomed VERRRRRRRY WELL, most of the women were dressed in very fine vinatage gowns.

Another woman was living my fantacy wedding.. :frowning: lol

What a freaking waste of money.

I wonder how many impoverished Afghan refugees would have been benefit from a charitable donation equivalent in value to the cost of that wedding...

^Exactly!!!
For me a simple nikkah with all my loved ones present.
That's all I want :)

That’s all I want… but I’ll get thappars if I try and suggest it :bummer:

^ OOOh so we want the same?! wink

got lotsa fazool money to waste!
sighz ppl these days!

tell me about it, I mean wine and the Quran in the same room, whats that all about

It’s about people who like to imagine that they are sophisticated if they ape the West…

Whoever wrote this should try her hand at writing novels. With a little training, she may do moderately well. If this all sounded surreal, it probably was. :)

gimme a chatai to sit, some khajoor to munch on and call it a nikkah.

:k:

I want to know where did they get all that money from ?

Anyone can save money for anything.

IF I get married I can have any sort of wedding I am sure of that, however why would I want that? Why would I spend soo much money on a dress I wont ever wear again? Why would I spend and go all out for simple things like ice carved swans? Honestly, I do not want all that attention, to sit on a stage while hundreds of people looking at me, is this really even islamic? Man IF I get married, my parents will not tell me how to run my own wedding, I will take that into my own hands. Spending all that money for dumb things. In Islam it says we should have a walima and be happy, but not go all out. I honestly can say my dream wedding would be marring someone I know will be my perfect match and being able to start off my life with him, that would be MY dream wedding.

I would rather put a down payment on a house or spend 6 months travelling in Europe than have this kind of wedding. However, they sound very wealthy so I guess they could afford their dream 'western' wedding. I hear weddings in Pakistan are becoming just as lavish! Is there any truth to this??

sigh Oh well! To each their own. :)

Re: Fancy weddings!

Do you believe this part?? I mean why do they want to act like christians and 2nd how many Mullahs does it take to marry someone??

depends on the region

I enjoy elegant, classy weddings but the trick is, they have to be sophisticated as such, location-wise, $ wise and whatnot, as long as they aren't over-dramatized or trying-to-be-something-you're-not type deals.
