Fanaa - merged

Re: Fanaa - merged

I saw it last night, I loved it =) I will see it again!! I really thought it was a good movie especially with all these rubbish ones coming out. I really enjoyed Aamir khan in his white kurta, he looked really good. Kajol is a great actress she did her role justice and her being blind was pretty good acting. the shair's were really funny and i loved them alot. I recommend the movie to be seen in the theathre especially because the scenary is beautiful. Oh and the kid is so dham cute!! I think its a hit =)

Re: Fanaa - merged

can someone find all the shairs and post them?? i really want the one where she goes hume na bulana =) please

Re: Fanaa - merged

i saw it last Friday... didnt really like it.

Apart from Aamir khan's acting and his look (he looked so good in shalwar kameez), i didnt think it was THAT great...

it was much better than the cheap crap thats being made lately, but having said that, its the same type of love story... boy and girl meet, they fall in love, they have a fling, they part.. few years down the track they meet again.. bla bla bla... and depending on the writer, they either end up together or apart..

its nothing new

im waiting for kabhi alvida na kehna...

Re: Fanaa - merged

^ i'm guessing that's gonna have the same story line too :p

Re: Fanaa - merged

nah kabhi alvida... is more along the lines of Silsila.

Re: Fanaa - merged

^ oooh interesting

but why on earth is shah rukh playing the lover boy role... ugggh cant stand him...

Re: Fanaa - merged

i saw this film yday and i really loved it, the songs were lovely and it was different.. the shayari was amazing.. i love amir khan in the first half of the movie, so mysterious, yet so outragiously flirtatious. Kajol was looking for love and found it.. Amir Khan is such a good actor. class.

youve got to go and see any indian movie with a pinch of salt.. dont take everything so seriously.. its 3 hours of light entertainment.. it aint real life.
I really enjoyed the film and may go again tonight :)

Re: Fanaa - merged

I guess those are the types of roles people in India like to see him in. If he does a Swades, the regular moviegoer in India doesn’t care for it. Actually he’s playing Preity’s husband who has an affair with Abhishake’s wife played by Rani :smokin:

REVIEW

‘Fanaa’ fantastical, even for Bollywood

BY JOHN ANDERSON
Special to Newsday

May 31, 2006

(Unrated) Romance, comedy, star-crossed lovers, musical numbers and sectarian violence are all part of a Bollywood movie with more subplots than Vishnu has arms. With Aamir Kahn, Kajol, Rishi Kapoor. Screenplay by Shibani Bathija. Directed by Kunal Kohli. 2:48 (adult situations, violence) In Hindi with English subtitles. At the AMC Loews, 42nd St.; ImaginAsian, E. 59th St., Manhattan.

Bollywood has long employed the operating ethic that Hollywood now calls it own: Make every movie an event. Something for everyone. All things to all humans. If this means cross-pollinating Benny Hill with John Le Carre, so be it.

In “Fanaa,” which is likely to be the biggest mainstream Indian import in years, the envelope is not just pushed, it’s pushed off a cliff. The plot makes a hairpin turn mid-film that would, under almost any other circumstances, be laughed off the screen. But given the epic improbabilities that have already occurred, it seems perfectly plausible, even predictable, that what was previously one movie would suddenly become another.

What has it been up till then? A typical Bollywood romance, in which rakish tour guide Rehan - played by Hindi matinee idol Aamir Kahn, of the cricket epic “Lagaan,” among others - meets a blind girl named Zooni, played by the ridiculously beautiful Kajol. He woos her, loves her, sings with her in the seemingly obligatory musical-number-in-the-rainstorm, helps her get her eyesight restored. And then the drama begins.

To say any more regarding the storyline - and we’ve only provided the briefest intro - would certainly ruin it. It’s worth noting that, as in many Bollywood films, the musical numbers go on forever. The comedy is generally broad and low. (An Indian tourist, passing a monumental tomb built by a Mughal wife for her husband, says to his spouse, “I can’t even get you to make me bread and potatoes.” To which she replies, “I’m having one built for you.”) The lyrics to the numerous songs are generally inane (although the same can be said for a lot of Italian opera). And unlikely coincidence rules the narrative, and the day.

Kajol, however, is a wonderful actress (director Kunal Kohli can’t seem to take the camera off her). Kahn, though not looking his best, has moments of genuine truth, as well as charm. And the intent of the movie is, as always, entertainment pure and simple. There are no boundary issues with “Fanaa” - what the viewers want, emotionally, is what they get.

To resort to strictly ethnocentric references, “Fanaa” is equal parts MGM extravaganza, Shakespeare Lite and James Bond. In their heart of hearts, isn’t that what movie audiences really want?

Re: Fanaa - merged

it is Aamir KHAN!

‘ridiculously beautiful Kajol’ agreed

Re: Fanaa - merged

Why do the Gujaratis want it banned in India?

Re: Fanaa - merged

they have lost there mind .... its basically @ hopeless politicians who cannt listen to whats been said ....

Re: Fanaa - merged

note to directors.. it DOES NOT have to be three hours long.. just cut down on the romance and the bay wazan shyree (an Indian trademark).

Tabboo looked more like a Dr. than an intelligence officer and as usual Rishi Kapoor will agree to work for just all the booze he can drink. Sadly the producers ran out and had to have him ‘accidented’.. :hehe:

Could have left him alive, disposed off the major instead. Rishi could have told Kajol and then the decision to stop Aamir would have rested with her. At least that would have left the attention solely on the climax.. cuz if they want us to empathize with Kajol, most in the audience would still be grappling with her loosing her father and can’t adjust that fast to her latest dilemma of having to stop Aamir by force.

Re: Fanaa - merged

yes Nia that much I caught but a helicopter doesn;t just pop up out of no where right.

PA hahaha rishi kappor working for booze. I have seen better investigation in scooby doo than in this movie

Re: Fanaa - merged

If you found those shairs amazing then you need to read truck and tempos. They have better shairs written on their back.

Re: Fanaa - merged

Pathetic movie.

Kajol plays a muslim girl who falls in love with a total stranger - a guide (and even agrees to meet him despite being blind) gets up to no good before marriage, she then decides to keep the illigitimate child, her father who is alo muslim drinks alcohol! she then begins to fall in love with an indian (non-muslim) soldier, the alcoholic father does the nikah without any witnesses, she shoots her own husband at the end.

:silly:

Plus Points:

  • Songs:Chand Sifarish, Mere Haath Mein
  • Shayri
  • Chota Munna
  • Tabu

Re: Fanaa - merged
