Family Tour to Gilgit Baltistan in 2014

Re: Family Tour to Gilgit Baltistan in 2014

Thanks for your words.

There were never Talibans...

There is no security issue in whole Baltistan Except minor in Chilas but army has strong presence there. Gilgit in Muharam can also be sensitive but not more than Lahore :)

There are few places which have ZERO crime rate like Hunza & Hushe etc. This was a family trip and we returned almost on mid night few times.

Re: Family Tour to Gilgit Baltistan in 2014

reminds me of our class trip when all our class went to Lake Saiful Muluk and Lalazar near Naran and Kaghan on the way to Gilgit. in those days there only very narrow roads accessable only one way by Jeeps.

very interesting trip!

Re: Family Tour to Gilgit Baltistan in 2014

Saif ul mulooq & lalazar are great. Its now just 12 hour drive from Lahore. On the way to Gilgit from Babusar pass (Naran side) is awesome. but we done this tour through KKH. KKH is bit boring...

Lot more coming....

Re: Family Tour to Gilgit Baltistan in 2014

**Day 5 Minimerg > Deosai > Satpara > Skardu

**The Deosai National Park is located in Skardu Gilgit-Baltistan province, in northern Pakistan. Deosai is accessible from Skardu District in the north and the Astore District in the west. Deosai means ‘the land of Giants’. The park is located on the Deosai Plains of the Gilgit-Baltistan geographic region.

Deosai is a tourist attraction and lot of tourists who visit Baltistan go to Deosai as well. Deosai Plateau which is the second highest plateau in the world after the Chang Tang in Tibet. In local Balti language, Deosai is called Byarsa, meaning ‘summer place’. The Deosai National Park is a treeless wilderness at 4114 meters lying south of Satpara in Skardu, in the Gilgit-Baltistan province of Pakistan. The plateau, located between the western massif of the Himalayas and the central Karakoram, is the second highest in the world after Tibet, and covers an area of about 3000 square kilometers. It is famous for its unique flora and fauna, but also for its stunning scenic views of the snow-clad mountains and streams.

The park was established in 1993 to secure the survival and the habitat of several animal species, such as the Himalayan Brown Bear, which had long been a prize kill for poachers and hunters. The plains are also home to numerous high altitude animals including Red Fox, Snow Leopard, Golden Marmot, Himalayan Ibex, Wolf and Ladakh Urial, as well as over 125 resident and migratory birds among which the Golden Eagle, Griffon Vulture, Lammergeyer, Sparrow hawk, Laggar Falcon, Kestrel and Snow cock. Deosai, literally the “Land of Giants”, is accessible via Skardu in the North and Astore in the West. It can only be visited during the summer season, when it is covered by millions of flowers and butterflies.

The view of the Karakoram Range from the top of the 4785-meter pass is breathtaking. The most gorgeous picnic spot in the region is undoubtedly the Sheosar Lake with its quiet and peaceful surroundings. It is situated at a height of 4142 m in the plains and is approximately 2,3 kilometer-long. In Shina language, “Sheosar” means “blind lake”. Another occasion to take timeless photographs for sure!

O yes. it really worth visiting.

Even if you are abroad. Pakistan has more than 100 mountains which are called (The Seven-thousanders). The only country where you can see many high altitude (8000m +) mountains from road side.

Updates are coming shortly...
