Re: Family Superstitions.
the only one i can think of is that you shouldn't do jhaaroo or vacuum if someone is travelling. Like if someone is on a flight then you shouldn't do. We always tried to extend it for a few days but it hasn't worked so far

Don't leave the Ja Namaz all spread out after you have prayed , do not leave the quran open , shaitan will pray namaz or will read the Quran.
Azhar Usman came up with a nice answer for that one . That bugger has all the more need to read namaz and quran. No ?

Re: Family Superstitions.
I grew up with that too…I never quite understood why milk was so bad, but it was totally okay to serve dahi with fish ![]()
I think its probably borrowed from Jewish culture…Orthodox Jews can’t eat fish (or any other kind of meat) & milk together…the combination isn’t kosher.
The only other big thing we have in our family is not wearing black at weddings…I had a black outfit that I really wanted to wear at my sister’s wedding, and my mother & naani were absolutely adamant that I wear something else (the also wouldn’t let my brother wear a black suit)…they finally compromised with me, and let me wear it to the valima as long as I wore something more colorful to the shaadi.
Re: Family Superstitions.
yea this too
my mum didnt let me wear black for my friends wedding
i ended up wearing...............sky blue! ewe!!!
Re: Family Superstitions.
Oh…and whenever a girl from my mother’s family gets married, during the rukhsati, right as she’s walking out the door from her father’s house “for the last time” they feed her a pinch of sugar (so her memories of her father’s home will always be sweet…or something like that)…and her mother whispers something to her in Kashmiri.
I asked my mother what they say…it’s actually very dark…it basically translates to something like “you leave us today dressed in white [the wedding jora], may you only return to us dressed in white [a burial shroud]” ![]()
