Family Recipes

Re: Family Recipes

My favourite is daal chawal and a fried egg :)

We also have daal chawar and poppadoms! Or simple friend bhindi nom.

I love daal chawal!

Re: Family Recipes

When I was really young , my mum used to make boli

Wasn't a fan of it but whenever we were sick she would make it, it was warm milk (almost like rasmalai) with a almost cottage cheese esque lumps in the milk (made of milk powder)

never ate it anywhere..

Re: Family Recipes

Thanks Inspi.. Still confused but looks like nimkoo

Re: Family Recipes

It is a type of nimko - its small round pea sized fried nimko type thing.

Re: Family Recipes

Some people call it Khara I think?

Re: Family Recipes

I need to try some now :)

Re: Family Recipes

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong..................but from what I know it's fried vesan (vesan+water mixture). Once they are cooled down we soak them in water to soften them a bit and then squeeze out the extra water before we add them to the yogurt.

Re: Family Recipes

milly is gonna love you, guac.

Re: Family Recipes

Why?

Not that she shouldn’t love me or anything like that… =)

Re: Family Recipes

OMG! Forget unique family recipes, Guac is the first GS person EVER to know that it's called vesan in Punjabistani!

Uff, dude, the amount of fakeo Punbajis here that say 'besan', you would want to cry.

P.S I love the word boondi, when my daddi first used it I thought she meant something else beginning with B that doesnt have the 'ee' sound at the end. :/

Re: Family Recipes

oooohhhhhhh! Okay :hehe:

Yes of course it is vesan! …besan just sounds off

LOL @ mishearing boondi

Re: Family Recipes

I'm tempted to try the tuna-keema dish. Anyone has a recipe?

Re: Family Recipes

Re: Family Recipes

:rotfl:

Aww man Milly look at you getting bullied for calling it vesan…little do they know it really is called VESAN!!

Re: Family Recipes

kaThal [jack fruit] kaa shaamii kabaab...we call it 'HinduoN kaa kabaab' lol :)

Re: Family Recipes

I think we have something similar. Mama usually calls it moonh-bandi, but she also refers to it as mangochi.

It’s essentially daal kay barray ki karhi - but instead of the yogurt-based karhi masala, it’s more salan-like.

Re: Family Recipes

It does look like nimko.

It tastes a little bit like dahi phulkiyan. I’ve never seen this in raita but we make boondi when we make gol gappay at home.

My favorite raita of allll time is the one with tarka in it! My mom makes the bestest tarkay wala raita…:hayaa:

Re: Family Recipes

Its really easy peasy.

You just bhoon it like you would any other type of meat.

Fry one sliced onion until golden in oil.

Add ginger garlic paste, clove powder, red pepper powder, salt, haldi powder, dhania powder and bhoon this masala for just a few seconds.

You can add mushrooms at this point too if you want. If not, you will just toss in your fresh or canned tuna and bhoon until it starts to get brown. Once its brown, you're done. If your masala gets dry too quick, add a tiny bit of oil or water if you want to stay away from oil.

This was a huge favorite of ours growing up.
