Family massacred in Pakistan
Eight members of the same Pakistani family have been massacred overnight in an apparent “honour killing”, police say.
The deaths, in Buner district in North West Frontier Province, happened late on Tuesday.

All but one of those killed were women or children.

So-called honour killings are on the rise in Pakistan, despite efforts to stop the practice.

In the latest incident, police believe the killers may have been seeking revenge after a girl from their family married against her father’s wishes.

The attackers struck in the remote village of Bagh Chingley, some 110 kilometres north of the provincial capital of Peshawar.

They were armed with Kalashnikovs and axes, police say.

They shot and hacked to death Dilbar Khan, 70, his wife, two daughters-in-law, three grand-daughters and a grandson.

One of those killed was a two-week-old baby, police say.

They are searching for the killers, but have so far made no arrests.

I don’t know what to say ..

they will never find them either.

Family massacred in Pakistan

How does one kill a two week old baby? A 70 year old grandfather? How can anyone do this.

Family massacred in Pakistan, BBC, 3 September 2003

oops i accidentally posted this in another Forum.

How did the murderers kill that two week old baby? Doesn't some sort of conscience kick in? i mean, how can you look at a baby's tiny face and then kill it ? Or the 70 year old grandfather. Even at the very possible last second, wouldn't your conscience force you to reconsider. i don't know how anyone could hurt a vulnerable baby, or someone's grandparents.

i hope they are caught Insha'Allah but seems unlikely.

Exactly

very sad indeed. :~/

thats just so sad......

Nadia_H.. i dont think people like this have a conscience.. if they did... we could reduce the amount of murders, rapes, and these so called honour killings...

and yeah as suroor said..... they will never FIND the murderers... even if they walked up to the police and confessed...

*They should change the name
from honor killings to disgraceful killlings
or brutal killings because no 'honor' would
ever allow a person to kill another. And if it does
then it isn't 'honor.' *

^
So true!

after all one muslim marrying another muslim? what is the crime or honor involved ? are you just islamic in name only still retain caste prejudices?

rvikz

it has little to do with caste prejudice, not to say that does not exist. The type of jackasses in question live in some tribalistic vengeful state of mind. Its the same type of mentality at work here which results in rejected suitors throwing acid on girls.

The really interesting bit is that "westernised" people get a bad rap in pakistan for being away from our accepted cultural norms.. idiot morons like these do not get the same type of attention until they pull some crime like this.

Horrifying.

Absolutely.

The article doesn't say, were the couple that married against families wishes murdered?

Was the onery couple the old man and his wife?

And am curious where the other womens husbands were? How come only male slaughtered was the old man? Strange.

What are these murderers doing with Kalashnikovs anyway? Isn't that some type of automatic weapon?

after the fall of teh soviets, tons of weapons that were in the hands of the "mujahideen" which were supported by the world community started ending up on the black market and in the hands of anyone who wanted one.

these weapons created what was referred to as the :klashnikov culture" in the 80's and early 90's.

even now, getting a klashnikov in Pakistan is easier than getting pot in the US.

Well, almost the making of a good conspiracy theory.

Am sorry for the harsh thoughts that creeped into my brain and gave me thoughts like ^.

Because I was thinking majahideen when I read the post.

AAG

things have improved in the cities over the last decade, but there wasa time when the state of lawlessness was horrid, drugs, weapons and sectarian and ethniv rivalries turned cities into the wild west.

even though that has been curbed for the most part, except for sectarian violence which sadly is still going on, the lawlessness which existed in rural areas has continued to exist and goes on everyday without people paying much attention to it until something big like these murders or the shameful punishments carried out by panchayats in those areas.

These are teh areas where family fueds carry on for centuries, there is an example of such a fued in American history as well :) but these are many, village, tribes, families..where one small issue can escalate over time and over generations.

Oh I hope they find the culprits fairly soon.
