Family history of diseases - prospective spouse

NOTE to mods: Its like, a bit broader than pinky thread. but i think its a separate topic thats why i opened a separate thread.

So, lets say, the potential spouse has family history of illnesses (he/she himself/herself doesn’t have the disease.. but their parents/uncles aunts/ grand parents had the disease)

would you consider at as a key factor in determining suitablity?

how important would it be in your decision making process?

Re: Family history of diseases - prospective spouse

I had told my husband before we got married about breast cancer history in my family. It didn't matter to him. I never asked about his, but found out shortly before the wedding that his mom is diabetic. But that doesn't matter to me either. Illnesses can happen to anyone even without family history and it's not something that would've factored in my decision of who to marry.

Re: Family history of diseases - prospective spouse

now a days there are so many ilnesses in the fams...from high to low BP..heart eaches and so on

My MIL has a kidney prob in her fam (the females in her fam suffer from serious probs and even she does) but that didn't payed any role in the decision of my parents neither in mine...If we have kids (inshallah) we have to be more carefull and pay more attention to their health...but it is all in the hands of Allah swt.

I do believe that the it also depends on the seriousness of the ilness.... e.a. if someone has aids.. i dont think anyone would think about marryin his/her daughter/son to the person...It can be a tough dicission makin process though..

I find it strange that people wonder about these things

Re: Family history of diseases - prospective spouse

My bro rejected a rishta because of this, the girl was very beautiful, sensible, smart, educate and had many good values, her family were good too, but, her family from both sides, mum and dad had cancer running through their families, therefore, my bro declined.

Hopefully the girl and my bro will find good spouses soon
