Re: Family Front
I am not sure if it was late 1998 or early 1999 that this comedy 'sitcom' started playing on PTV.
I must confess that I have never seen this comedy serial, which is supposed to be the longest running sitcom in Asia. I have a very good idea about the cast of characters, and I did find a few scenes here and there to be funny when I saw something.
However, there is no doubt that it was/ is popular in Pakistan. I mean how else would a person, who was not into TV in 1998, who didn't even watch PTV at the time, and who never saw the play know about Family Front .... unless it was popular :D
I think Saba Pervaiz has become stereotyped in Family Front type roles after that play. What I personally dislike is the recorded laughter, to give the impression that the thing is being recorded infront of live audience like the american sitcoms. I dislike it because most of the jokes on which the recorded laughter is put on are not very funny, and the laughter is just irritating in those circumstances. Plus, the writers never really know which joke was more popular than the others because they are putting the recorded laughter themselves anyway.
