Anyone ever traced back their ancestry, especially in Pakistan or India and is it even possible to go that far back in time providing these countries keep up to date historical records? Also any sites available to research asian history?

In rural india there was a community known as bhaat…they used to keep records of families and used to collect annual amount for their service…but they are rarely seen now a days doing there job…
