You will always find people like that in such gatherings/most families.
Socialise with the people who you get along with. Let those who gossip do so. Keep it civil with them and when they make comments just pretend it hasn't affected you. I agree with Rupay. Confrontations are definitely not worth the hassle. It starts off with a petty comment and can end up as a family feud.
Also, don't rise to anyone's bait.
