Someone I know was telling me that she “fell pregnant” and it just grated on my nerves like fingernails on a chalkboard.
OK, one can fall ill or fall down the stairs. One cannot “fall” pregnant. One gets pregnant. One gets a job, one does not “fall employed”. One gets old, they do not “fall old”.
Falling is a completely passive and/or random event with consequences. It is something that “happens” to you without seeking for it to happen. Pregnancy is the result of an active event in which there are participants.
were u talking to someone who isnt so great in english grammar? actually i know some ppl for whom english is teh mother tongue and even then half the stuff they say is so horribly misconstructed..

you can have sex and NOT get pregnant so you fall pregnant only as a result of the right sperm meeting the right egg and fertilization occuring. this is a process that one cannot actually guarantee.
unless it is explicity stated that it was a negative outcome cuz the person didn't want to have a child, "falling pregnant" is not necessarily a negative statement.
Every time a man and a woman have sex, there is the possible result of pregnancy. There are two ways to "fall" pregnant. Immaculate conception, as the christians beleive, where Mary conceived and gave birth while still a virgin. Or...if the husbands sperm crawled out of his body, across the sheets and into the body of his wife then complete a swim, find the egg and fertilize it. Those are the only two ways one could "fall" pregnant.
The person I know was happy about "falling pregnant", she incorrectly described getting pregnant.
It looks like that the phrase is catching on. If you do a google search on 'falling pregnant' you will get many articles on how to conceive and what not.
Perhaps they mean like they were not planning for it, yet it happened despite their efforts against it?? People do still get pregnant despite using contraceptives afterall. What gets me is people who do NOT use anything at all and then when they “fall pregnant” are all surprised and say this wasnt part of their “plan”!!!
Whether you plan a pregnancy or not, whether you use birth control or not, whether its accidental or not, there is still the possibility - nomatter how small - of a pregnancy each time a man and a woman have intercourse.

ok I used to have the local news. Now we have "hyper-local" news. So - what - do they now have news reports that are so very local that they have separate reports for each block of 10 houses?
We used to have "war correspondents". Now we have "embedded reporters. What are they injected into? Ticks get embedded into your skin...I didnt think you could actually embed a human though.
And we hear about people "going" missing. Heck, how do they go missing? Get up one morning determined to get lost?
