Falling between Foundation shades

It’s annoying!! For Nars Sheer Glow I’m more towards Stromboli than Barcelona, which is too orange and stromboli is a tad lighter

In Diorskin Star the 33 is too orange/pink and darker and you can see that my skin is lighter when I apply the darn foundation on my skin and when she applied the 31 sand it’s a bit lighter but it’s good because it’s not the pinkish tone.

Is anybody else in my situation? Or is there someone that is closer to Stromboli in Nars, what shades do you use in other foundation brands?

I hate the pinkish types. I think MAC and este Lauder makes their foundations more pinkish. That’s not for me.

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

This happens to me in the summer months when I tan…either the shade available is too light or too dark. I end up having to mix two or more shades on a palette and blend, blend, blend!!!

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

Diorskin star is 50 bucks a bottle so I’ll be spending 100 just because I want my perfect shade of foundation. Nars I think is $45

The ones that are too dark are pinkish and i’m closer to the yellowish types

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

I can’t say I agree with you on that. I haven’t used MAC, but Estee Lauder is my go-to brand for foundation and I have quite a bit of yellow in my skintone. I just got the 2N1 shade and I love it! I agree with you about the falling in between shades thing. I’m pretty tanned (summer yay!), so I can’t really use the makeup I regularly use. When I went shopping for a new foundation, I kinda fell between 2N1 and 3N1, but I felt that the 2N1 gave my skin a bit of a glow, so decision made!

For you, I would suggest get samples of both shades. Try it a few times as part of your daily routine. I find the lighting at the mall is not the best for figuring out the “perfect” shade. Good luck!

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

yeah…I know…gets expensive.
thankfully we never need to use a whole lot and that money invested can last a long time.

I actually used to use Revlon’s Colorstay foundation which was less than half the price of the Dior and Nars brands so I was able to get away with having a few shades on hand. Plus it stayed on and was transfer-proof so double good.

Now I’ve found that many company have developed new shades catering to darker skin tones. Maybe not enough yet but they’re definitely getting there.

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

This is SO TRUE!!!
I don’t understand why they have fluorescent lighting at all the make-up tables…it does absolutely nothing to help with colour matching.
I get that incandescent lighting can get really hot but at least you get a feel for the right shade.

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

Actually now that I think of it, Stromboli in natural light like outside, is the right shade and 31 seemed right

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

Get one branded foundation lighter than your skin tone and another darker shade in drug store. Works for me.

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

If there is not a perfect shade match for you with NARS, MAC, Este Lauder, and Dior foundation…then try others. Make-up forever, Lancome, Bobby Brown, Chanel…the list goes on.

And btw, always get a sample and try it on in your home and look at yourself outside in natural light.

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

What would be an equivalent of MAC NC30 but less yellow in other good foundations with medium to full coverage..

I was using 35 but after also using a spf 50 for a while now it looks too dark and 25 is too light.. Shame cause I do really love the Pro Longwear..

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

Stromboli is my shade for NARS sheer glow and it’s a perfect match…I can’t use MAC because it always turns orangey on me. My shade for Diorskin Airflash is 500/Dark Beige, and it’s also a pretty true match.

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

When the sales lady tested my skin for airflash she wasn’t sure whether i’m was a 301 sand or a 201 and she leaned towards 201 again it i was in between. 201 makes sense because it matches the stromboli shade in the diorskin star… in findation.com Although I never tried the Punjab shade not sure whether it’s pinkish/orange or similar to stromboli.

in FitMe maybelline, i’m 220.
matchmymakeup.com…also says it.
Are you sure it’s 500?

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

Yes, I just checked on the box.

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

No I meant if stromboli is your shade for Nars sheer glow then isn’t dior airflash 500 shade too tanned a shade for your skintone. If 500 does match your skintone and stromboli does too, i’m really starting to think that maybe I need to try Santa fe in nars sheer glow since i’m 201-ish in airflash

Re: Falling between Foundation shades

I’m Sante Fe shade when I went to sephora today and the makeup lady told me so Khattichic you might be right in terms of the shade for airflash
