Fall of Dhaka - 40th anniversary. Isn't it time for real reconciliation ?

Re: Fall of Dhaka - 40th anniversary. Isn't it time for real reconciliation ?

^^^

The turbulent conditions in former East Pakistan due to denial of Bengalis to rule Pakistan as a result of 1970 elections, multipied by the most stupid strategic action by air bombing of Indian border towns by PAF. Opening another war frontier during crucial times where Pakistan army was fighting Bengalis and insurgents in former East Pakistan was most stupid action by General Yahya Khan. His first address on this adventure still echoing "mere hum watanon aagay barho aor dushman ko tahis nahis kardo". Blaming US for such cowardly acts and blunders has become a fashion now. The genocide of Bengalis can be compared with gencide of Bosnians during Balkan's uprising during 90's. The war crimes committed by those should have been court marshalled and punished.

The war front was already opened in november of 1970 when India had started a sustained barrage of artillery and troops movement in E. Pakistan. As for court martialing the bad officers, why didn't your idol Bhutto, whom you find no fault in or the bhutto family at all, do it? Perhaps, someone had skeletons in the closet to hide.

He was hanged and killed by another general what else do you want? Do you want to take out his dead body from his grave and hang it again??????? Will you be happy then?

Re: Fall of Dhaka - 40th anniversary. Isn’t it time for real reconciliation ?

Bhutto was hung in 1971? :hehe:

"Southie, you remember lights or bombings as well? It could be Pakistani planes as Bombay is close to the pakistani border, though PAF was grounded later in the war due to the great ally we had. As for the US fleet, India would have never deployed their full navy with their only CV if a threat was detected. Indian CV was never deployed to West Pakistan where there was a sub threat."

Yes - the lights we learned later was from indian Air Force flooding the skies to etect any threat. It was weird, because a swarm (streams) of light spread across the sky and appeared hurtling towards us.

At a distance, we also saw some planes taking off - which we assumed was Indian Air Force planes going after the threat. To the best of my knowledge, Bombay was not bombed.

What is CV?

CV - Carrier Vessel (for aircraft carrier). Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Fall of Dhaka - 40th anniversary. Isn’t it time for real reconciliation ?

Always blaming weak people is not new here. Bhutto was not in power in 1971 when major Pakistan broke away. Read history many times to memorise this. Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan “the sarhadi gandhi” said at that time that “Quaid’s Pakistan is finished”. It was Bhutto who brought the nation back on feet and gave reason for existance of remaining Pakistan.

^^ Thanks PG - makes sense.

Anyway, my point was not to make this abt India-Pak - sorry to derail folks!

Re: Fall of Dhaka - 40th anniversary. Isn't it time for real reconciliation ?

Ok, my bad 1972, though Bhutto came in power at the end of 1971.

Re: Fall of Dhaka - 40th anniversary. Isn't it time for real reconciliation ?

It's only 90 day war in conventional sense, the oppression of Bangladeshi by Pak troops started before that.
