Those colonial-era land claims were no longer tenable in the face of opposition from the peoples who lived there. There are plenty of other territories, though, where the inhabitants still support those claims and so this argument is not valid. Not just the Falklands, but French islands off the coast of Canada, French, British and Dutch islands in the caribbean, French Polynesia, etc.
If colonial era land claims are no longer tenable, then do you agree that control of the Turkish Republic of Northerm Cyprus should be fully ceded to the Nicosia government in the Greek part of Cyprus? After all, Turkish settlement only occured during the colonial era after 1571, at the same time as England started claiming the Falklands.
