Why should they though? they and their families have lived there for generations. Britain never invaded the falklands it was an uninhabited lump of rock That no one wanted for hundreds of years. People have the right to self determination, what you're suggesting is tantamount to imperialism.

The way uk and ppl of falkland want right of self determination if we had it in subcontinent respecting right of self determination of every group of 2 and 3 thousond we might be ended with polka dot pattern.and if uk is so intrested in defending and respecting that right why dont it leave north ireland.i dont give a damn for right of self determination of 3thousond ppl in world of 6bl inhabitants where million of muslim are deprived of same right by allies of uk.a place which is thousond of miles away from england is part uk this kind of arrangements are only developed in imperial and colonial rule of england.didn’t pakistan got gwadar from oman?in same manner india got goa and pudducherri…
Re: Falkland Standoff
But was the land their's to begin with? The independence movements of the 1940s to the 1960s showed that colonial era land claims are no longer tenable. And to be very honest the reason the Brits want the Falkland Islands is not for the inhabitants and their rights. Its for the use of the Island as a naval base.
Those colonial-era land claims were no longer tenable in the face of opposition from the peoples who lived there. There are plenty of other territories, though, where the inhabitants still support those claims and so this argument is not valid. Not just the Falklands, but French islands off the coast of Canada, French, British and Dutch islands in the caribbean, French Polynesia, etc.
If colonial era land claims are no longer tenable, then do you agree that control of the Turkish Republic of Northerm Cyprus should be fully ceded to the Nicosia government in the Greek part of Cyprus? After all, Turkish settlement only occured during the colonial era after 1571, at the same time as England started claiming the Falklands.

They do respect that right, that is the root of the problem. When Irish independence was sought, Northern Ireland was the only part where the people (by a slim majority) wanted to stay part of the UK. Northern Ireland was part of Ireland for 1 month in 1922, but then voted to leave Ireland and join the UK.
The latest poll (carried out in 2009) indicates that 69% of people in Northern Ireland want to remain part of the UK.

i think if the rest of the UK had a say on Northern Ireland it would be returned to Ireland. Unfortunately they are in so much debt they would be unable to look after it.
Re: Falkland Standoff
this is bordering insane humor!
David Cameron has accused Argentina of “colonialism” for continuing to claim sovereignty over the Falkland Islands.
President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner has demanded renewed talks about the future of the islands - which Argentina calls Las Malvinas.
But Mr Cameron told MPs they would stay British for as long as the islanders wanted, and Argentina’s demands for that to change were “like colonialism”.
