fake nails vs. real nails

Hi everyone,

I’m a newbie and I joined this forum because I’m getting engaged in 2 weeks and would like to share advice/opinions on everything related to planning the engagement and wedding.

My question is, do you prefer fake nails or real nails and why?

I’ve only had a french manicure once in my entire life and it was ok. I find that even after the polish has dried, it still gets indents in it from me touching stuff or going about my daily life.

I’ve never tried fake nails, although I do like the way they look. The only thing I’m scared about when it comes to fake nails is that they will fall off during the ceremony because they weren’t glued on properly! Is this even likely to happen?

Which option is better for someone who is not used to having their nails done?

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

I say fake nails. so much easiers. you can just take them off after the ceremony. and no they wont fall off if you get them professionally.

Fake nails are fine cuz they wont chip and the color doesnt budge :)

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

when the fakes come off, tht when u will notice the damage they do to ur nails, try to grow ur nails out and keep natural ones.....

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

just buy a normal pack of fake nails from any store and they shuld be fine..they never come off mostly the glue is quite pretty good and strong
i wuldnt go for a french thingy or getting them done professionally...because from wht i have heard is that nails need to breath and u shouldnt cover them with the fake cotting for too long...not sure ask some dr or beautician

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

Depends, if your nails are good and you are just worried bout the normal dents in them which become more visible after putting polish, buy a 3-step Buffer.

They are cheap would set you back $10 but they do an awesome job in getting rid of dents and smoothing out the nail surface with a natural sheen.

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

^ I think she means that she doesnt wanna get a manicure because it never stays perfect... it gets dented and stuff even after drying like when you touch something. I have the same exact problem :( And I dont like getting fake nails too often only because after you take em off, your natural nails start breaking and chipping and become very very thin. They look like crap and take a good couple of weeks to get back to the way they used to be.

As for falling off, never heard of such a thing when it comes to the professional stuff.

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

Long nails are nice.

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

^that is just disgusting and supercreepy.

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

and i thot shaneequa was worse :vivo:

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

oooooooh acha........... well we all know why polishes chip and dent.

They are cheap. Use a good polish and dont forget the top and bottom coat.
And plenty of air time for it to dry.

I dont know how I know this but its a fact that for a polish to dry to its core a good 5 hours are required. Dont know if that is true or not.

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

As salaamu aleykum wa rahmetuhAllaahi wa barakaatuh.

Fake nails are cute but how will you pray then? You should just get your nails painted and then so you can take it off when you need to get your wudhu (ablution). I got my nails done professionally before, and it was a huge mistake. They dont come off for a few days unless you yank them off (but that really hurts). And also fake nails do alot of damage to your nails. It rips the outer layer of your nails off so they become very fragile and look like they are shedding when you take them off. I dont think you will want to have monster shedding nails your first couple of weeks married. Just some advice from experience : )

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

If you go to a salon to get them taken off it won't be such a problem.

It's u're engagement get u're nails done from a professional :) without worrying about the chips and dents and smudges!

If u want u're nailpolish to dry super quick..submerge u're nails in water to which several ice cubes have been added!

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

^ That is a good tip! Thank you!

Personally, I dont like fake nails...never have...never will. Its not my thing. I get regular manicures and keep my own nails at a managable length - not too long and not too short. I just like the look of fake nails...it doesnt look natural to me.

Do what makes you feel comfortable! :)

^ I say it because for an engagement it's all about hands and the ring ;) and when u use fake nails u don't worry about scratches, chips or anything...

Yes, maintaining u're own nails is a great idea for everyday life :)

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

i would say go with ur real nails....

if it doesnt grow too fast u can take 1 garlic clove and rub it on/under ur nails daily
in about 1 week you'll have healthy long nails.....always works for me

Re: fake nails vs. real nails

I used to wear acrylics nails all the time. About two years ago, I realized that a simple manicure with a neutral color (or even clear) is a much classier look. However, I do miss the convenience of acrylic nails; they are resistant for weeks at a time and the color never chips.

No matter how well I tend to my nails when I use nailpolish ($17 manicures every other week, base coat, top coat, the whole she-bang) it chips within 7 days, if not the second I step into the shower.

I don't want that kind of unpredictability for my wedding and will not be able to run to the salon if my nail breaks or color chips. Instead I am getting a very natural looking silk wrap on my nails and a subtle french manicure. I intend for the nails too look short, neat and natural. Of all the things I will have to worry about during my wedding, it will be good to know that my nails are not one of them!

Also, if you get the wrap removed professionally after your wedding, you will have little to no damage done to your nails. I find it to be well worth the effort if this is an option for you (I know that for brides that are in PK and abroad, acrylic/silk wrap nails are not as accessible).

Acrylic, silk wraps are all available in Pakistan :) even synthetic nails and swarovski ones too :)

i too never used fake nails for my functions..

for engagement i remember i did take very good care of them and they grew longer too..for everyday shine i remember i used to put those coats of shiny transparent nail polish...which is used for the top coat as well..

fake nails give more damage to ur own nails bcz of glue and all...
