Ever since musharraf left we’ve been hearing alot about how the PPP has given us a democratic government. Slogans like “Democracy is the best revenge” can be seen everywhere. They keep claiming that their so-called “democracy” will magically solve all our problems. However, the country is same as it was in the musharraf era. Instead of empowering the population, the government cares only to strengthen it’s own party and want the people to follow them blindly (as if they are pirs). This fake democracy is nothing but a bullet-proof jacket for leaders like Zardari to stay in power.
In a democracy the people have their own views and the power of express themselves, they dont follow a “party” blindly. It is a form of Government for the people, by the people (not by some party). We should establish a mindset that is tolerant of other people’s views and try to bring the decision-making power to the masses (only possible through education). Pakistan will have real democracy when it’s citizens start believing in themselves instead of these “bhuttos” or “sharifs” or even these “moulanas”. This is also the biggest cure for corruption.
