Faiz Ahmed Faiz-- Elegance par excellence

**Na Aaj lutf ker itna, ke kal guzar na sakey **
Wo Raat ju terey Geso’on ki Raat nahi

Ye Arzoo bhi bari Cheez hai Magar, Humdum !
Wisaal-e Yaar, Faqat Arzoo ki baat nahi

May be the better known ‘Pakistani’ poet outside Pakistan. Poetry is timeless and classic. He knew the art of describing beauty and passion to perfection.

Born in 1911, Lived a difficult life in Pakistan due to his conflicting ideas in politics with the state. He spent many years in Jail, but remain loyal to his ideology and his beliefs. He was pro-communist (correct me if i am wrong) in urdu they say Taraqi pasand tehreek.

Although, he had to face great difficulties in Pakistan, unlike Ahmed Faraz he never considered leaving. He loved his home land and was worried about people and social system…

Nisaar teri galeyoon ke ay watan ke jahaan

*Chali hai rasm ke koi na sar utha ke chaley
*

***Ju koi Chahney wala tawaaf ko nikley **
*

Nazar bacha ke, Jism-o-jaan churaa ke chaley

Many sigers have sung his poetry beautifully most prominent is Iqbal Bano
the following is just one part… it was sung by Madam Noor Jahan

Teri soorat se hai aalam main baharoon ko sabaat
Teri Ankhoon ke siwaa dunyaa main rakha kia hia

Tu ju mil jai, Taqdeer nigoon ho jai
Yoon na tha, Main ne Faqat chaha tha youn ho jai

Our bhi dukh hian zamaney main muhabbat ke siwaa
Chahatain our bhi hain was’l ki chaahat ke siwa…

I believe there are many people who adore his poetry. So I’ll leave here
and will continue later.

Spring blossoms

Spring blossoms, it is as if
All have returned from oblivion
Every dream, every youthful theme
The ones that died for your beauty’s sake
But rose again to love partake
Roses now with freshness teem
The ones fragrant with your remembrance
The ones that make your lovers dance
Torments all rage supreme
Regrets of our friends’ disgrace,
Intoxication of a lover’s embrace,
Heart’s remorse none can redeem
Mine and yours,
Questions, answers unforeseen
Spring blossoms and they start anew
The journals of my love to you

Codey bhaee shukriyaa
lekin hum kiyaa aur hamara zauq kiyaa
aap aisay baland zauq hazarat hi to hamaray liyay masha'al raah qaraar patay hain.
aap ki aalaa zauqi ki misaal yeah thread hai --
yeah thread khol kar aap nay hamaray zakhmon ko bhi khol diyaa hai -- lahuuu jaari hai
woh kiyaa kaha hai issi zalim faiz nay:
MATAA E LAUH O QALAM CHIN GAYEE TO KIYAA GHAM
K KHOON E DIL MAIN DUBO LII HAIn UNGLIYAAn MAINAY

aah aik ghazal janay kab say dabee huee thee gard aalooda si lekin iss thread nay uassay phir say "uajaal" diyaa

SHAM E FIRAAQ AB NA POOCHH AAYEE AUR AA K TAL GAYEE
DIL THA K PHIR BEHAL GAYA JAAn THEE K PHIR SAmBHAL GAYEE

Aur jee haan the translation of "BAHAR" is awsome even though i believe that the poetry cant be translated, i mean the soul of poetry cant be, the words may be. NICE TRY WHOEVER DID IT.

We, who were slain in unlit pathways

Inspired by the letters of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg

Wishing for the roses of your lips
we offered ourselves to a gallows’ twig
Longing for the radiance of your glowing hands
we let ourselves be slain in unlit pathways

On the gallows away from our face
darted the redness of your ruby lips,
waved the playfulness of your youthful locks,
shone the glow of the silver palms.

When the evening of suffering settled in your alleys
we came, as far as our steps could bring
Words of poetry on our lips, a lamp of anguish in our hearts
Our suffering was a testimony to your beauty
See, we were faithful to our pledge
We, who were slain in unlit pathways.

If failure was our destined end
your love was indeed our own doing.
Who is to blame if all the roads of passion
led to the killing grounds of separation.

Picking up our flags from these grounds
will march forth more caravans of your lovers
For whose journeys’ sake, our footsteps have
shortened the lengths of the agonizing quest
For whose sake we have made universal
by losing our lives, the pledge to your faithfulness
We, who were slain in unlit pathways.

Awards:

The real award for a poet is the love and appreciation of his fans. Faiz stands among those who enjoy both at one and the same time. Besides he was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize in 1963, as the first Asian poet. Before his death in 1984 he was also a nominee for the award of Nobel Prize, but his association in later life, with Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian Movement, and the Editorship of Lotus, deprived him of the award because the Zionist element in the controlling body of the Nobel Prize is strong.

Re: Faiz Ahmed Faiz-- Elegance par excellence

from the day i read this from fayz, i started doubting him....

ik fursat-e-gunah mili, so woh bhee chaar din
dekhay hain hum ne hoslay parwardegar ke

Re: Faiz Ahmed Faiz-- Elegance par excellence

^ Used to be my signature long time back  though never knew who was the poet. I still doubt, if it is faiz or not :stuck_out_tongue:

his pujabi poetry is quite unknown, but good nevertheless

Re: Faiz Ahmed Faiz-- Elegance par excellence

^ how can u talk about faiz and not know about this ghazal of his....
its perhaps his most well known ghazal....

*dono jahaanteri mohabbat me haar ke
woh ja raha hai koyee shab-e-gham guzaar ke

veeran hai maikada khum-o-saghar udaas hai
tum kya gaye ke rooth gaye din bahaar ke

ik fursat-e-gunaah mili, wo bhee chaar din
dekhay hain hum ne hosalay parwardigar ke

dunya ne teri yaad se begana kar diya
tujh se bhee dil-fareb hain gham rozgaar ke

bhoolay se muskura to diye thay woh aaj Faiz
mat poochh walwalay dil-e-na-kardah-kaar ke *
