Faith Schools

Anyone here who has experience of having studied in Faith school or sending their kids to faith school?

Whats the experience like?

Re: Faith Schools

I wouldn't do it. One of my neighbors sent his kids to one.

Re: Faith Schools

I think faith schools everywhere do far better job than normal schools.

In Pakistan my sisters went to high famed catholic schools and then my nieces went, all did great.

The two things I noticed they work on most are
1) Discipline
2) Focus on education

They are more strict though. Thats why probably going backin time I wouldnt get myself in one at all LOL

Re: Faith Schools

Success will depend on social intelligence and upon the ability to accept and cherish differences. People surrounded by one kind of people become opinionated and judgemental and would have a hard time dealing with different kinds of people. I made sure my children had a very diverse group of friends and were exposed to all cultures, races and faiths. Lack of empathy makes bad humans.

Re: Faith Schools

^ Errrr.... I have studied in Islamic schools and no, it does not make us judgmental and opinionated. I did have a hard time adjusting to Dutch people in uni but that was probably due to other reasons.

Re: Faith Schools

Why?
Why should strangers have all the fun in spoiling your kids?

Re: Faith Schools

People more exposed to diversity would be better at interacting with diverse people. These kids in my neighborhood do not have a single non-Muslim friend, did you have sleepovers with gora bacchas when you were little?

Re: Faith Schools

You see the world in black and white, don't you?

I don't see how "sleepovers with gora bacchas" makes a kid more successful, more emphatic, less judgmental and whatnot than someone who has attended an islamic (or another faith) school. I find it a bit insulting.
It is not the end of the world if one doesn't have a single non-Muslim friend, as long as one respects other cultures, races or religions I don't really see the problem. Besides, most of us are lucky to live in diverse and multicultural societies and we get plenty of opportunities to mix with others outside of school.

Re: Faith Schools

Actually quite the opposite, I see the world in many shades of grey and I am not referring to Islamic school but all schools that cater to a certain group. My ex-was a hard core catholic and all her family was judgemental towards non-Catholics, most of the religious members of my inlaws say horribly racist things against nonmuslims. When you isolate yourself from 97 percent of the population than it could be tough to integrate. Exclusion is a form of racism so how is it okay for us to practice exclusion and demand to be welcomed with warmth.

Oh and he didn't need to sneak his gf in he is an adult at 18 and my wife made them breakfast. In my high school days I was back home and believe me there was a ton of hanky panky there also but our parents didn't find out.
