Salaam,
Can anyone tell me of good halal restaurants in the Washington DC/ Fairfax Virginia area? Hubs is going to be there on a long-term business assignment and I want to be able to give him some options if he wants to eat out.

I was in Fairfax Virginia last weekend and went to a restaurant called KEBOB PLACE. Food was good and everything was prepared as we ordered. But it was very expensive compared to Pakistani restaurants in Toronto area.

Hinna all desi places are halal, or atleast they claim to be. Many indian restuarants claim to sevre halal meat too. Then u will find some mediterranean, iranian, afghan restuarants too which are halal. Halal meat is easily available in all of northern VA. If you tell exactly where he will be staying, as in what city he will be staying in, i'm sure we would be able to give u more specific details.
Popular desi restaurants: Kabob Palace in crystal city is excellent, we had them cater food for my sisters wedding, punjab somehting right next to it, ravi kebab, abshar and chutney are okay too, charchoal kebab in herndon is good, food factory in arlington is good too, shalimar in herndon/sterling I think, shiney's in annandale, lots more.

Fairfax county is huge Hina, all the way from Great falls to Gunston Hall, that is a min. 50 minute drive from one end to the other. I would recommend renting a car. Even though public transportation is good it takes up a lot of time switching buses, getting to the rail station etc.

Try fairlakes area in fairfax for apartments. I have been living in the area for over 5 yrs and absolutely love it.

Hinna there are halal meat markets and halal restaurants all over Va. Famous paki ones are Ravi Kabob, and Chutney. There is a halal chinese restaurant called "O's place".
Places to live...as lollypop mentioned...fair lakes is a great place to live...i lived there 2. It's expensive but clean and easily accessible to shopping centers and public transportation. Anywhere in Fairfax Country is generally a nice place to live.
Traffic is really bad all over the DC metropolitan area so there really isnt a way out of it.

Hinna, I think u should come out and say what ur dude is actually going to need, just desi restaurants is not going to cut it in this instance. He will probably need a car, a kitchen, a maid and a map. There's tons of places for desi food in the DC area, including Dehli Dhaba off of Arlington Avenue in Arlington. All desi restaurants are halal, including some of the oriental ones (i don't know what that term is so non-PC). He's going to have a ball. If you have some days off go visit him, its a fun place to be.

Tofi...for the first 40 days he's going to be in a hotel. We are thinking of getting a car there and near the end of june we're going on a house hunting trip to fairfax.
Hehe, I know desi restaurants are not going to cut it. I'd rather have him eat wholesome food at home. However, it would be nice to know of places to eat in case he's working late and doesn't feel like cooking.
Hubs has had experience living away from family for work purposes..so he knows what to expect. I guess just having a bit more information is always good.
Femme..all I know is that his assignment is in Fairfax county.

I've got some more info on the location of the company. Apparently it's on the eastern most tip of Fairfax county. Hubs is thinking of getting a location in either Arlington or Alexandria.
