I think its overrated ...my best friend is a really good catch he married a girl with "wheatish skin color" because thats what he likes more.He had a lot of rishtas from "gori" larkis
I personally prefer tall well built and almost obese girls, skin color is secondary to me.
I think its more female relatives of boys than boys themselves as its a status symbol for them, "trophy bahu" am i the first one to coin this term ?

Although i dont agree nor believed that these creams work my friend who i hadnt seen in months has used loaddssss and was a nice sanwali colour before but now she looks sooo much fairer, i was shocked to see her

Discrimination on the basis of color is a bigger sin then dowry, and so rejection on the basis of color is utmost humiliating for a girl that it pushes them into depression and even to suicide in extreme cases. To make one self-beautiful (considering gora rang the only criteria for beauty) demand for fairness formula or creams are also on rise for the past many centuries. And to further infuriate the situation we have advertisement of these fairness creams, which are on a drive to deceive.
No wonder we see so many skin-care products, lotions on the racks and countless beauty regimes that aim at one thing alone-making you gori.
In nutshell, instead of judging beauty by gora rang try to look other aspects of beauty which include overall personality, style, skills, manners, qualification etc. Don’t consider woman just a commodity or some expensive decoration piece place on some display shelf.

hussn ko app zahiree tor per agar dekhna chahain to behrhaal gora rang count hota hay .. kion k sufaid rang khud apni zaat main aankhoon ko acha lagta hay ...lakin yeh koi qanoon nahi h k her ik par sadiq aye lakin..aksaree bat hay is ley raaij hai...werna hussn i tareef her insan apne sooch say kerta hay
