Failure to plan for the World Cup?

It seems we will be going in to the World Cup without having identified some decent replacements for players on the way down. Wasim, Anwar, and Inzimam have all been fingered as senior players who played badly during tthe recent bad patch although I thought Waqar bowled much worse than Wasim.

Of the young batters tried, Taufeeq, Faisal, and Misbah have shown some promise, but they should have been grounded over a year ago so we could see what they were made of over a sustained period of time.

As it is, it looks like we will end up going in with the old guard due to the failure to cope with the Aussies. Does anybody else feel we could have planned for this a bit better?

I forgot to mention, we also need Moin Khan back for the World Cup. Rashid Latif is a great keeper but Moin is a winner through and through. The world's biggest tournament demands players who perform when the heat is on. Moin always rises to the occasion and for the World Cup players with a bit of fight will be just as important as techniques. With Wasim, Youhanna, Inzimam back as well, as long as we have someone at the top who can motivate these players, we are up there with the best. It needs strong management and leaders who can get their players to play for them. We can re-build after the World Cup.

Mr Xtreem, Pakistan goes into every world cup without a plan, they just happend to be in good form in 99, that they played so well. In 96, it was bad captaincy which led our side to loose games and even in 92 we lost some games badly without any plans. Pakistan is a team without any plans, Our captains and coaches rely on our player's talent to perform and not other things, and thats why our player choke on big matches.

That's Y pakistan team is sooo unpredictable.

BTW heard that Anwar is not gonna be selected to the worldcup. !!!!

Ok, it’s pretty clear that we have desperately failed to identify and test young players in time for the forthcoming World cup. One quality that will be needed is players who can perform under pressure of playing in the biggest tournament of cricket.

So a good indicator is if a player shows some confidence, therefore Faisal Iqbal and Farhat should be looked at closely. Players with nice techniques but no bottle will blow it when the time comes.

Remember Pak selectors; cornered tigers, not cornered hamsters :nono:

And Hasan Raza plays well under pressure, I think he played beautifuly, he should also be considered.

*** The Game Responds***:

*As Mr. Umair mentioned, Pakistan have never went in with a plan in the World Cup. Infact, I am happy to see Pakistan failing at this juncture, because I sure as hell didn't want them to peak too soon after the win in Australia. Let Wasim Akram, Yousuf Youhana, Inzimam-ul-Haq, and Saeed Anwer return, and our team will go back towards building momentum, just in time for the World Cup. Whatever you people might think, I certainly did not want them to enter the World Cup as favorites, as many of the "experts" here were presuming after the win in the Super Challenge Series against Australia. And yes, please kick Waqar the assclown out now; I think he has been given enough chances as the captain(Hell, he hasn't even performed as a bowler that well). People, That Is All.*
