Also the overthrowing of Guatemala in the 1950s was touted as overthrowing a communist regime in that country. However the truth was that there was no communism. All of that had to do with the money invested by 3 big wigs in the government of United States into the International Fruit CO. ( chiquita banana). Ring a bell ?
Hence the US overthrew a "regime" in Guatemala, for money and everyone in US thought that it was to defeat communism close to home.
All this was shown on the history channel while the commentators laughed and said we had the same 20-50 people carrying guns and we showed them on the media in different places to show that there was a revolt and a grass roots movement by the poor farmers in Guatemala.
The guatemalans still say that the only good president they ever had was overthrown by the US elite for money, and that started the longest civil unrest in that country that still continues.
Very sad.
Me from Armika? nope lol :) Mind you I could list a lot more facts on the US pout of personal memory, ranging from the most violent developed country in the World, to the only one that has used Nuclear Weapons, to the country with the secon highest prison population in the World?

And just for accuracy sake, the following statement is incorrect:
"Afghanistan: The country at the bottom of the UN Human Development Index in the world "
Here is the actual report from the UN, and Afghanistan is not listed. (perhaps the Taliban did not return the forms). African countries dominate the bottom of the list.
Here is another undocumented post, a good read, if a little pro US.
Another Perspective
Subject: From a Romanian newspaper
We rarely get a chance to see another country's editorial about the USA.
Read this excerpt from a Romanian Newspaper. The article was written
by Mr. Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title "C"ntarea Americii
meaning "Ode To America") on September 24, 2002 in the Romanian
newspaper Evenimentulzilei ("The Daily Event" or "News of the Day").
~An Ode to America~
Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even if
you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world
and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs.
Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a
hand put on the heart. Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the
army, and the secret services that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody
rushed to empty their bank accounts. Nobody rushed out onto the streets
nearby to gape about. The Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a
helping hand.
After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the smoking
ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national
flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on
every car a government official or the president was passing.
On every occasion, they started singing their traditional song: "God
Bless America!" I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for
hours listening
to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman
in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey
player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane
from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of
people.
How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being?
Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned
into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call, millions
and millions of dollars were put in a collection aimed at rewarding not a
man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.
What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way? Their land? Their
galloping history? Their economic Power? Money? I tried for hours to
find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding
commonplace.
I thought things over, but I reached only one conclusion...Only freedom
can work such miracles
Hmm the BNP I understand, (by the way the BNP was anti War, they said the US invasion was a pro Israeli act) after all the locals are the original residents of England, so they do have the right to expel people they don't like. But the USA? A country that was made by driving the locals to near extinction?
Columbia - drug trade - war on drugs in US - so we'll wage war at source - and we're footing the bill...what's wrong with that?
Afganistan - 9/11 - islamic extremism - osama bin laden - taleban - Afganistan - war on terror - we have to fight it at source - and yes we're footing the bill for reconstruction ...what's your objection?
Iraq - here I am assuming for the moment Bush will find serious WMD and serious Al Qaeda and Hamas connection - in that case pre-empotive strike to remove a very dangerous and unstable regime - and yes we've atleast partially footed the bill though I'm told Iraqi oil will be used to pay for reconstruction - what else would you have us do?
Israel / Eqypt - let's see: these guiys are kids or grown up? So how come if US does not actively seek it there is never a single peace conference - not a one!
I don't know the case of the other countries - but all I can say is, it seems fashionable to bash US whether facts support it or not

Did U.S. really make peace with Iraq after Gulf War? Or was it a cease fire?
It's not fashionable to bash the US. It is imperative to bash the US, as they have set themselves up for this bashing with their historic double standards, lies, hypocrisy and blatant Fascist mentallity.
What is fashionable on the other hand, is to attack any nation that does not agree with your ideals!
