Facts about Asma Jehangir

Is this lady really what she is all cranked up to be…and if she is..why does she severely piss off a rational, level headed thinker like me?

this is what she wrote about Pearl’s murder…‘Pearl’s gruesome murder indicates that he had stumbled upon some murky facts which would have embarrassed powerful lobbies.’…everything to her is lobby…conspiracy blah blah…

can anyone shed light on this? I would like to know some facts of who she really is and what she really does..

ps–please dont bombard me with info..keep it short and simple

  • If truth is knowledge, knowledge is power, and power corrupts, then are
all the liars in the world really the good guys?..*

Are you a feminist?Islo

Looks like you are NOT otherwise you would know her .She is woman Lawyer in Pakistan trying to emulate Activism like you find many here Betty freidan Gloria Steinam...

Pakistan is overshooting itself before waiting to let otherrelevent areas develop before becoming too advanced in one area .While being centuries behind in economic employment male education which will pull up the womenautomatically .Instead just fighting for women cause as in advanced country who have the luxury of providing job to all men & women Pakistan has to provide job for all Males before they can even think of providing job for all females.

Anywayze ....sorry i am just rambling ...

she is a woman who loves attention and would do anything to be on camera. a overated woman
it was shocking the manner in which she was making anti pakistani statements in india during the agra summit. had it been an indian who had done something similar people would have lynched that person here

Its Womens movement feminism & other corrupt ideas from west coupled with Indian recycled west ideas of divorce single parenthood ,femenazi activism ...ther are that kind every where .

What is good to have Cambridge educated Benazir when most of the women are not middle school passed in Pakistan .One out of millions being western educated doesnot make the country truly developed. It has to come slow from villages on ward not the other way round

Diamonds Are Made Under Pressure

FEMINAZI!!!!!
LOL
Now thats a term I thought I almost coined hehehehehehehehehehhehehe
Now this is one area of victimization that I truly feel sorry for the americans

I've been monitoring this thread for a few days now to see if anyone can come up with some serious content about this lady.

Unfortunately most comments have been just personal opinions without much substantiating evidence.

My comments cannot, as yet, be considered much more than that so I'll add them now and then do some research and come back with my findings.

What I have heard and read about Asma Jehangir is that she has been an advocate for human rights. She has worked for and defended crimes against women in Pakistan, including cases of domestic abuse where the woman has been violently abused (i.e. burned by acid and fire, body parts cut off, etc., etc.), and where the woman is disowned and then hunted down by her family because she didn't marry the guy they wanted her to.

Now if this equates to being a FeminiNazi then I suppose I have misunderstood the term all these days.

Let me reiterate that my opinion is based on limited information. I encourage anyone that has access to details that contradict what I have understood to post them here.

I am quite serious about getting to know the truth on this particular personality.

My hunch than any reference .
In my opinion she is very india centric much like Benazir Najam Sheth & many opposition in pakistan

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/confused.gif

It seems like she tries to emulate Indian & also looks to them for assurence & “shabashi”.Such ppl. are uneasy in the eyes of paranoid about india opakistani

It would have been better if she directly emulated Anny Rand & western feminists who actually are the leader pioneer in this field..indians are only second hand middle man salesman for thsese ideas ..there record of Devdasini ,Foeticides,Bride burning ,Gender selection ,female abondonment …makes India like an AIDS patient selling sterile needles

Log saath aatey rahey aur Carvaan Badhta gaya

I have never heard a single direct fact or quote from Asma which can be construed as evil or whatever..feminist yeah..but no evil spy

She's the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extra-Judicial Killings. Could be wrong, but I don't think she's a woman "who loves attention". She has worked hard for the rights of ordinary women in Pakistan who have suffered from acid attacks, dowry burnings, etc., as well as for the rights of minorities within Pakistan. What makes her so "evil"?

I can’t say that I have read all or even most of her publications but those I have read seem to indicate that she is a genuine women rights activist. Prolly done more for women than any of the governments combined.

She is big supporter of democracy and a stanch Anti-Military government of Pakistan! Mainly because of Zia’s regime backing of Mullahs in every field of life.

She doesn’t believe Mushraff to be any different & at many times have made statements against his regime. No wonder she is considered a ‘traitor’ :~)

Refrence

FOLKS,
One case of domestic abuse…where is it specifically islam related.Divorce is the most contested ,most fought & most dirty case in civil court in U.S.A ..thousand women get battered & killed each month .

All these English speaking Pplz.in India -Pak …only pander to the foreign press hankering for attention & commendation from U.K. & U.S.A.

Does Jilani & Asma mean more to Sarwar than her own parents. The guy who killed her has paid by his death…what more justioce do you want …

What was the reason of divorce ???.Uncontested divorce would have led her to be not eligible for iddat money even …Then like in Shah banu case in India it would become Male chauvinism & Islam tyranny .Whites & hindu treat there women much worse .In fact a hindu woman cant get divorce religously …period.

In u.s.a. divorce in genuine abusive case even…means poverty for divorcee.

Its often been claimed that azma J takes over cases that publicise her work and more importantly herself...i agree plus in my opinion, for every accolade she gets for being human rights blah blah...there is a part of her which immediately prays on it as soon as possible..as if she does the good stuff to get a chance to be in teh spotlight....her remarks abt musharraf or anyone for that matter reek of putting down the other person than anything else..without any consideration to wht she acutally says....plus all teh hooplah about UN..pahleeze...if UN was worth two cents it would ve follwoed its OWN resolutions two/three decades ago...seems to me that she has made a postion for herself by preying on Pakistan....as in supposedly 'working towards the end of abuse etc etc' but when given half the chance, flexing her vocal chords in blasting the very place she 'supposeldy' works for..

Be very wary of Indian Pakistani hawking in ENGLISH ,they have there eyes on somthing $$ or Fame ,than the merchandise they hawk

Rushdie ....hawked all muslims to west

Tasnima ...in bengali & English feminism,Freedom? religiion,etc.

Anwar Sheikh ....Sold islam to Hindu & West

Tehmina Durrani ..Sold fascination of west toward fantasy of muslim harem of Khar

In fact Benazir would fall under this category of hawking whole Pakistan under garb of female rights ,equality & liberal rights & priveleges given to her as an example

Chin-o-arab hamaara
hindostaan hamaara

Asma Jahangir - Her beliefs & views

“I am of the view that there is no such thing as a country having a religion. …we have to be a State that believes in secular values. We have somehow distorted the meaning of secularism. Secularism does not mean that people have to give up their religion. It just means that people have to be tolerant of other peoples’ religions.”

“..The people of Pakistan do not want the grandeur of nuclearisation. What the people of Pakistan want is economic prosperity, where their children can study, where they can get health services. When you ask the people why they’re miserable, they don’t say,” We’re miserable because we don’t have a nuclear bomb. They are miserable because they do not have the next day’s meal. They have no security."

“Perhaps terrorism is just simply use of arms without politicization of religion. Jihad only simply adds politicization of religion, making it even more lethal.”

“There has been no initiative by Indian or Pakistani government officials, to lessen these tensions. The only initiative has been taken by the people themselves. That has been people-to-people dialogues, and there have been people-to-people missions. At the last mission that we took, there were 64 women that went to India. It was written in the Urdu newspapers that 64 prostitutes went to India. It was written that there should be a case of treason against me, because I gave sweetmeat to an Indian soldier…It was said that I and some of my colleagues met Mr. Khushwant Singh, who is a sex-starved person, and we, as Muslim women, had no business to meet him because all Mr. Khushwant Singh can think about is taking women to bed, whether they are Ghazalas or whatevers or Hinas or Asmas.”

“I like my religion. I don’t want people to be intolerant towards my religion. Therefore, I would not want that a Christian Pakistani should suffer because people are intolerant about his or her religion. Or a Hindu Pakistani, or an Ahmadi Pakistani, for example.”

The above quotes have been excerpted from Asma Jahangir’s address to the Asia Society in New York in 2000.

From the excerpt of Asma's statements - I dont see anything evil, or unIslamic about her at all.

I dont think its asking too much that women have the rights they deserve as human beings given to them - its certainly not devilish.

Any time someone has the nerves to stand up and criticize Pakistani society and practices -- they are called traitors.

No wonder Pakistan hasn't been able to progress anywhere.

And YES, I AM a Pakistani!
