Re: Facing Discrimination ..
Interesting topic.
I didn't face it to great extent, as I worked in my home country. But I did faced certain comments during Internship regarding my hometown from my boss and I replied that in kind. He said 'yaar main to mazaq kar raha tha'.
Re: Facing Discrimination ..
wow, the boss could get away with "mai mazaak ker ra tha" ?? no HR involved?
I faced it immensely in the UAE .. in the name of emiratization, they have some really screwed up policies that would let them hire a non emarati white guy but not a non emarati non-white woman !!!

HR departments in Pakistani companies are just a joke. I'm talking of facing this in one of the most reputed accounting firm in the world. One can't be done away with such things by just putting boards related to work related ethics in corridors and notice boards of the office. Desi bosses are not behind Desi aunties.
Re: Facing Discrimination ..
I haven't faced any discrimination in my work places.

A few years back I was hired in a multinational, in a position for which I was over qualified for. I was told that a good performance might lead to growth in the company. After joining I realized that they don't promote females to senior position(s). Also when I was hired there was another opening in the company which was an exact match for my skills and experience but a less qualified 'guy' was hired for that position.
Didn't really like working in such a political organization irrespective of the fact that the pay and fringe benefits were much better so I quit.
Re: Facing Discrimination ..
@ Ali Syed, Mashallah lucky guy ![]()
@ Muqa, yes you are right perhaps, HR is a non purpose entity in a country like pakistan :hinna:
@ Eastern, unfortunately there is not choice but quit in such a situation. I feel really sad sometimes. Quitting is what I did too from organizations that I faced discrimination at , the unfortunate thing is that we cant change things for the better ![]()
I know recently in England as well, many cases of racial discrimination have been recorded .. most of this is happening due to a tightening job market, but then again, no excuses for any form of discrimination. Just this morning I was reading and article on BBC where a black lady stopped using her first name and instead uses her middle name “elizabeth” to apply to jobs and she said she is getting a whole lot more response now then before .. if these things can happen in such law respecting countries, imagine the state of affairs in countries in the Middle East and Asia !
Re: Facing Discrimination ..
Haven't faced any discrimination yet.
NED uses a quota system and it doesn't have a lot of seats for students who do A'levels. But I can't claim discrimination, because I never applied for admission there. I was already enrolled at my University by the time their admission process started.

The decision to quit wasn't solely based on this though, so I am not bitter about it. Never really tried applying to any multinationals afterwards though.
On a site note, since you seem to be related to HR, I have another thread topic for you to start, that was a case study in my HR course ...topic is 'attractiveness bias' :)
Re: Facing Discrimination ..
alHamdolillah, i never ever faced discrimination in my life. :)
