Facial at Home ... Help

Hi,

I have semi oily and dry skin and I want to do my facial at home, plz suggest facial items like cleansing cream, face cream etc with their brands.

Thanks.

Oil of Olay and Nivea have nice products.. St. Ives has a great chamomile cream cleanser :)

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

^ yes i love oil of olay. have u tried their at home microderm kit, gina? its awesome, skin absolutely glows only after 1 application, skin seemed shades lighter.

^ I've heard about it.. i'm partial to my Neutrogena Home Micro-Derm kit :)

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

^ ya i love neutrogena too, i have tried both and i think oil of olay was better for me because it has a glycolic peel serum in there which really worked wonders for the uneven skin tone around my mouth and nose and some hyperpigmentation i had after my last pregnancy. so basically a good addition to a home facial!

Lots of people love the Oil of Olay kit.. I've seen people use it too often and harm their skin though :(

Avon has a GREAT glycolic acid moisturiser.

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

I just did a mini facial with the products I had at home. Steps: 1)warm water and steam to open up pores 2) applied a scrub with salicylic acid and let it stay on for a couple of minutes 3) splashed warm water again to clean 4) applied a mask let sit for 10 minutes 5) cleaned with warm then cold water 6) applied moisturizer, eye cream, and lip balm 7) smooth skin!

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

Starrry night what were the names of the products you used?

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

-Biore pore unclogging scrub
- Freeman purifying avocado and oatmeal facial clay mask
-Oil of Olay complete all day moisturizer for combination skin
-Olay Regenerist eye lifting serum

Oil of Olay has always suited my skin so I tend to like their products . I like one of their clay masks too (its blue). I've also heard papaya masks are good for your face, but haven't tried any yet.

For oily skin.. mud masks are the best. If u have normal skin u can try papaya..it has enzymes that fade age spots/acne marks. Pineapple has the same effect!

I've been for a few professional facials but feel I can get the same results at home so save my money by diy!

I first precleanse using dermalogica precleanse, then i use dermalogica special cleansing gel. When cleaning my skin I use either a facial loofah/muslin cloth.

I then steam my face for a short while, and then apply my exfoliating mask (which is - as the name suggests - a sort of 2 in 1 thingy). This is a mask i got from pak and its fantastic - truly brightens my skin like no other!!

Then i finsh off with this - l'occitane honey comfort mask. It's another mask but its a very gentle mask and makes my skin really smooth and soft! it's kinda pricey but its my little luxury - i'm sure you can get the same results with another home made honey mask.

I finish off with chilled rose water for a toner (kept in the fridge - thanks for the tip gina!) and finish off with my staple - jojoba oil!!

If i do this once a week, it makes a huge difference to my skin, but as of late, been too lazy....

^ If u're using the exfoliating mask Summayah.. don't use any abrasive facial loofah.. u'll just end-up scratching the surface of u're skin. Just apply u're cleansing gel.. and massage it really well in upwards and outwards strokes..and wipe-off with damp cotton-wool.

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

Ponds has a cleansing cream that is good for removing makeup. Multani mitti and besan are supposed to be good for absorbing excess oil from skin.

Have you tried the Connair facial steamer? It's about $25.00 and you can buy it from Bed Bath and Beyond. It's so easy to use. You simply pour water in the bowl and press the on button. About five minutes later, the bowl will generate steam. You then place your face near the edge of the plastic shield and steam your face. It's really soothing. The lady I go to for facials uses this device to steam the face prior to applying toners and creams.

You can also use rose water to close the pores. Oil of Olay is nice and light to use. You can also try Boots Mositure Quench cream. Nivea and Neutrogena are nice brands as well.

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

hey i have combination skin, and unfortunatly i keep breaking out every now and then, i mean not very badly but i do get a few pimples and they have left marks on my cheeks, and lately my skin looks kind of dead, no glow , no life... i was thinking of trying one of these microderm kits, any advise on which would suit me better ?

my skin is not very senstive and can take bleach or a facial well and one more thing i have tried several different products of oil of olay and neutrogena other than these and both have ended up provoking minor break outs... im guessing that was because i can only tolerate water based stuff on my face and moisturizers from at least oil of olay arent completly water based, do these products have any such ingredients that can lead to this issue?

Gina ive been reading a lot of ur stuff so id really appreciate ur input and wundergurl u too :)

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

Sob sob... no body is paying attention to my query.... actually i have an event cuming up and i want to improve my skin for that... cant spare alot of time for myself so wanted sumthing to fix me up quickly and these products so sound like they will..... i juts want to make sure so that i dont end up doing more damage than good :(

How often do u exfoliate? If u blv neutrogena suits u're skin then buy the neutrogena home micro-derm kit. A pimple or two..around the time of u're periods is pretty normal. Just be sure and keep u're hands OFF u're face. Use a cleanser, toner and moisturizer.. and exfoliate 2-3 times a week.

Another reason skin tends to look dull is when it's undernourished.. hope u're applying a good moisturizer.. use a night cream as well. Vitamin E creams/oil is great for an undernourished face,

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

i exfoliate like twice a week roughyly using a simple st.ives scrub nothing fancy and ive been using loreal skin genesis lotion at night and think its ok... not too great though was thinking of switching to body shop vit E cream but same thing im afraid it'll make pimples come back :(.... is that water based ??

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

if i sound totally clueless about skin care products tou im sorry but i am!!! :(...desperatly need help!!! could u plz sugest a good affordable clenser toner too

Re: Facial at Home ... Help

My recommendation would be please don't user cheap scrubs on your face. Since you are only using it once or twice a week, invest in a good quality exfoliator/micro such as Estee Lauder's Idealist Micro-D...it works amazingly for your skin...
